Street racing. Yes or no

After just being flamed for my highway adventures I would like to know the general feeling of the board about racing on public streets and highways.

5SpeedP5 November-11th-2002 06:44 PM

We all know the consiquences, and crap... and how unsafe it is. But shit, i still do it, no reason why, its pretty stupid shit, but its fun. and i cant afford driving 100miles and paying 50 bucks or something to go to the strip every weekend, especially considering all the fucker hicks there are there. But hey, you build me a local track, that is cheap, and ill race there. otherwise, stfu!

but yea, its all good

VagaBond-X November-11th-2002 06:54 PM

hell yeah.....i street race....and its for the same reasons above....more my financial situation
even tho all the speeding tickets don't help it.

but its dumb, careless...blah...blah..I know all this...and i know how stupid it is for doing it....but hey.....it is FUN!!!....and i wouldn't give it up....currently i'm racing my pro, and a friends 93 Probe GT (he can't race with a 5 spd...so i do it for him:D)

and when i get my RX-7...probably an FC first....damn I'll be racing all the time....and then when the FD comes along....sheet...I'll be modding the hell outta it...and making it a street monster

Fulminatus November-11th-2002 07:12 PM

I hope you never find hurting people, shooting people, stabbing people, running over people fun one day. =/

(of course I'm talking about real life.. vid games are a different story =) )

NoahsMP5 November-11th-2002 07:43 PM

I swear I 've never seen her.

protegeDX November-11th-2002 07:48 PM

i havent raced in a long time. when i did, i didnt really go over 65mph and i didnt do it at like in a 25 zone. i dont race no more cuz i dont wanna mess up my car or get caught. its not worth it. plus my car is slow as balls, automatic DX. haha there are better things to do. take it to the track or autocross

onehawaiian November-11th-2002 07:58 PM

i voted "no". but dammit, sometimes ppl just gotta learn. i do not condone it in any way, nor do i make a practice/habit of it. in fact, it's not even about racing to me. it's all about "who's da man". i don't care if you pull up in a lamborghini, u better know how to drive it.

but, no, no street racing . (that is my official statement) :D

NoahsMP5 November-11th-2002 08:01 PM

Blues ledz knows way too much about guns to play:mach: So if you want to disscuss them then meat me in the spot:laugh2:

5SpeedP5 November-11th-2002 08:31 PM

haha, so i now understand you guyz relationship.... no more asking questions here

holy crap this is fucked up tho

Makaveli November-11th-2002 08:54 PM

Well this is my opinion:

Racing up to 100 km/h (or 60 mph) is fine, but if you're racing past that point, you're an idiot that needs to be taken off the road and have their licenses suspended. I am talking about city roads, not highways......

VagaBond-X November-11th-2002 09:28 PM

never race on a street full of pedestrians...or even if the road has a chance of having a pedestrian walk out onto the road...then no racing there

main city roads i have rarely raced on....most of the time its deserted back roads....

and if i ever kill someone racing...I'll shoot myself :D

hmmm  my previous sentence...wasn't meant for an easy way out of the consequences...I'm just saying how bad i'd feel if i ever kill myself...thats why i never race on roads with pedestrians....or roads with 3 or more cars in sight

maybe about 6 months ago i would be different...but i've kinda grown up since then..and won't just race anywhere <--- but it seems i haven't totally grown up...cuz i still race:D

MarkSpark November-11th-2002 09:29 PM

There's nothing more pathetic than seeing a honda owner attempt to race me. Screw racing economy cars.

Identity_X November-11th-2002 09:37 PM

I am against regular street racing, but highway is ok as long as one does not hit speeds of 120mph when there is still cars in every lane!

Identity_X November-11th-2002 09:38 PM

Isn't the Protege an economy car:rolleyes:

MarkSpark November-11th-2002 10:01 PM

I meant both the protege and honda.

THEGOLDPRO November-11th-2002 10:27 PM

my cras slow as hell, but i say street race away.

kc5zom November-11th-2002 10:32 PM

It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. :)

Mazdaboy42 November-11th-2002 10:40 PM

I find I have stopped racing as much as I used to, since my last vehicle got totaled (not in a racing incident and not my fault). My car just isn't as fast and not as many people challenge me since my car still looks and is stock. But when I do race it is late at night, when there isn't anybody on the road except for me and the person I am racing. It is also on roads that have a speed limit of 55, and not heavily travleled. If you would have asked me this 6 months ago, I would have said hell yes, but now I am a little more careful. Highway is a different story, I have a an addiction to driving fast on the interstate.

hehe the 417 on the other hand....:D

my official statement: streat racing is bad...BUT, IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO IT beware of the consequences......if you do the crime be prepared to do the time

Come again? LOL

Oh and obviously no one will race on roads with pedestrians, any no non-sense individual would know better then to do that.

you wouldnt have to worry about that.. you would be dead.:D

funkdaddysmack November-12th-2002 07:23 AM

I said yes just because everyone does it anyways... I think it's wrong, but it still happens. I tend to go a little faster on the interstate than needed. No speeding in town or residential areas though. I guess that's what comes with being an enthusiast!

GINUWINE_25 November-12th-2002 12:30 PM

YES IT IS A PRETTY HARMFUL THING TO DO NOT ONLY TO YOURSELF BUT OTHERS AS WELL BUT DAMN I SURE DO LOVE SLAMMIN THOSE GEARS AND LEAVIN SOMEONE OR A GROUP OF PEOPLE BEHIND!!!
BUT IN FACT DO BE AWARE OF SOME OF THE END RESULTS!

Ditto! :D

I especially love the moments where I'm trying to merge on the freeway, mashing through the gears and all of a sudden there's a Corolla or a Civic going about 45 mph ON THE FREEWAY! WTF!?

kc5zom November-12th-2002 09:40 PM

My favorites are the dumbasses going the speed limit in the left hand lane (for those who don't know the speed limit down here was, for a little while, lowered to 55 by the EPA). Everyone has to dodge that little dipshit because we are all going 80-90MPH.

I see that it helps proofreading your posts before posting them

I meant
"I'm just saying how bad i'd feel if i ever kill someone..."

but if it ever does happen...well I geuss I'll do the time...pay the consequences for my crime

leungwingkei November-12th-2002 11:30 PM

Just buy a PS2 and get GT3 for cheap. It's much more exciting than street racing and much safer too.

midnightblue97 November-13th-2002 11:15 AM

I neither condone, nor condemn street racing, I've done it more than a few times and won, and I've gotten spanked a few times too. Who cares, like they say, its all fun and games until someone loses an eye..........

project626 November-13th-2002 01:22 PM

Bottom line is that we're all guilty of Street racing. There's no such thing as Safe Street Racing. My suggestion is that we have to be more careful because the law is starting to get extremely serious about this. We normally race up in New York at night. And it's gotten so bad that if the NYPD sees your car as a potential racer, they'll ask youwhat you're doing here. Then they'll tell you to go home and if they see you there later on they'll impound your car. The worst thing you you can have done to you is have your car towed in New York City. First of all....they don't use flat beds, they use old tow trucks. So if your car is dropped it'll never survive the potholes. 2nd, once your car is in the impound yard, it's only protection is a see through wire fence that anyone can climb over and strip your car. And finally, After all of that, you'll recieve a fat $55.00 ticket for incouraging street racing.

Oh, I forgot to mention, it's $150.00 for the towing that must be paid before they release your car and $40.00 per day for storage.

KpaBap November-14th-2002 10:17 PM

As I've said before...
Street racing is like masturbation. Everyone does it but no one talks about it or admits to it.

kc5zom November-14th-2002 10:34 PM

In Houston they recently arrested 270 people in a K-Mart/Sonic parking lot for this crap. The cops (over 70 of them) came to the area (Uptown Houston) looking to bust some street racers but couldn't find any. So they pretty much rounded up everyone that was in the vicinity and arrested them for tresspassing. Needless to say that since this happened in the uptown area there are some very pissed off people with money and attorneys. Ought to be an interesting catfight.

itzkcatz November-17th-2002 01:20 AM

I think its hard to hold urself back when u come to a light with a hooked up car!. I street race sometimes but never in crowded traffic or busy areas. Or i go find the other racers at the factory road at 1am and have fun. Lets all try to settle down on racing in the streets. I wish they would build a track near my house it would make it alot less tempting to street race .Jon 93lx

THEGOLDPRO November-17th-2002 02:14 PM

yeah right jon build a track in the ghetto. lol its called jay-mars. they built the guardrails there so people wont fly into the water. whatelse do you need. lol

itzkcatz November-17th-2002 04:26 PM

Yeah a couple have ended up in that river i think a crx flipped in there lol

Mazdaboy42 November-17th-2002 04:57 PM

Everytime, I look at this poll total, i am amazed, I don't believe everyone is answering honestly. I know more people on this forum street race then are owning up to it.

93Hybrid November-18th-2002 12:56 AM

tax payers

I pay taxes on these streets and I will race them if I damn well please.I do not believe any full out races in the busy part of town.where i am from everyone hangs around the cruise strip and check out the competion. You rev at a couple of people and we all hook up and decide on a spot to race out of twn and at midnight when the pigs change shifts we drop the hammer.and for you pro owners I represent the pro hard in my town i am 31 and 3 the 3 were 2 si's and a BAD ASS NEON that cooks more rice than he can eat.but the serious ones race for $100 a race bt no one will race the nen anymore we know better.

NoahsMP5 November-18th-2002 02:37 PM

I think some peoples defination of street racing is different then others. Some people only think of the fast and the furious when you say street racing.

itzkcatz November-18th-2002 03:40 PM

Its all fun and games till someone spins out and kills a family in a minivan
