Mercedes ownage...

So i was driving over to the gf's last night and i came to a stoplight and through my closed windows and over my music i see hear 16 yr old kid in his daddy's mercedes blaring his music and revving the engine (clearly an automatic in nuetral) so i look over and hes staring right at me givin me the nod... now im fully expecting to get owned here cuz the only performance upgrade i have is an intake... sure enough tho, light turns green, i hit the gas and easily beat him up to around 45mph then backed off for the next red light... now either he was too busy trying to slam it back in to drive or those mercedes (s class i think) are wayy to underpowerd for their price.... either way def owned the crap out of that kid...

sounds like me racing every BMW I encounter.....yes they are WAY heavy and under powered.

My tag says "BMW WHO"....so you know I get a lot of challenges when I ride around.

If it was an s320, then you're right, stupidly underpowered. Any newer E class would hand you your ass though My friends mom has the least powerful model (E320) and it will take a G35 in a race.

jbiird317 August-3rd-2005 05:04 PM

haha well i have soft spot for bimmers cuz my first car was a '86 528e and my dads got a 2000 540i ...i can out accelerate his HEAVY V8 to almost 25mph, then hold even til around 40, he pulls away then and owns me after that... i can hit 80mph in 3rd gear in his car, its freakin rediculously quick from 60-100, but the initial acceleration just isnt there

ha yeah i never saw the rear of the car, but i assumed it was an s-class from the body style

Roddimus Prime August-3rd-2005 06:36 PM

I can hit 82mph in 3rd in the p5....

1= 24mph
2= 61mph
3= 82mph
4= 110mph
5= 140+mph.

jbiird317 August-4th-2005 06:18 AM

yeah, but this car is a six speed... so if 5=140+, 6=me dying

JDM-P5 August-4th-2005 09:27 AM

wtf are you doing to it now Barry!?

Jackelope August-4th-2005 09:41 AM

just a brake job (again) - got the rotors turned Wednesday, and it would have been done that day, but the guy at the dealership "forgot" parts closed at 5, and he got off at 6, so getting those today. Seriously thinking about painting stuff while the wheels are off :)

not gonna do much more to it until i sell my ATV.... then.... :evilgrin:

i'll have to actually pay attention to how fast each gear actually goes... give me something to do on the way home.

scotty878 August-8th-2005 03:16 PM

Yeah, I recently found out second goes a lot further than I though, dont know about any other gears though!

Jackelope August-9th-2005 07:17 AM

Ran through some of the gears this morning :) (shifted at 6500)
1= 35mph
2= 62mph
3= 85mph

hughes412 August-9th-2005 10:41 PM

Not to be a bummer or anything but I don't understand why any of you would run you cars past 6k rpms. Your way past you peak power curve and your tempting fait. I shift most of mine (normal driving ) around 4500 and racing 5500-6 max. This still keeps the RPMs up but for the next gear but not so high as to peg the redline. Just a thought.

MC August-9th-2005 10:57 PM

yeh i rarely or never let mine reach 6000... around 5500 i make sho it shifts...

Jackelope August-10th-2005 06:22 AM

haha :) - mine revs too dang fast anyway... it's at 6500 before you know it (light flywheel)
i usually shift at 4500-5500

jbiird317 August-10th-2005 07:05 AM

ha red line?? whats that? my auto never even lets me get close to that...

THAPRO1 August-14th-2005 07:17 PM

i dunno when i shift i have no tach lol i just know the max speed i can get outta each gear and thats what i do when racing which ain't to good but.....mayb i'll getta tach someday

jbiird317 August-14th-2005 09:22 PM

damn that must be tricky driving a stick car with no tach man, probly wouldnt be too hard to get an aftermarket one on the dash, but imo that looks ricey

THAPRO1 August-15th-2005 09:31 PM

^ yeah thats why i still don't hve one lol i'm thinking of getting a small one to put in a pillar pod that way it wouldn't look so bad....actually i've never had a stick shift car with a tach my old protege was a dx also and didn't have a tach when i drive other peoples cars with tachs i never really use it anyway you can just kinda feel when you need to shift gears

Ha ha...I can w/mine....but still...it's an automatic, and it sucks.

jbiird317 August-16th-2005 09:57 AM

yeah automatic sucks, i'm so sick of it, but i dont think im gonna be getting the manual/auto swap any time soon tho haha

and Thapro1-- yeah definately get the tach either in the pillar, or get one of those steering column pods...driving on sound/feel is fine if u have practice, i guess ive never driven stick without one so i wouldnt know

JDM-P5 August-16th-2005 10:27 AM

I dunno man...I can go off the sound alone....you just have a knack for it....it's like women while your stroking, you gotta listen so you know whether to gear up or gear down...can you dig it?

jbiird317 August-16th-2005 10:35 AM

haha yeah well i only get to drive stick (dads car) like 4 or 5 times a year besides backing my roomates car out of the driveway, so yeah, hopefully my next car will be stick so ill be able to get that good stroke down lol
