This ever happen to yall?

So Im driving around town taking a friend of mine home, pull up to a 3 way stop(a new road just opened) and I see this camaro go by, a newer but not brand new one. I proceed down the road and come up to a red light where he is stopped at.

I pull up and stop behind him.
THe light turns green..and apperently between the green light and my neons, it made him "horny" b/c he launches off the stop and takes off..

I catch up to him and hes pokin along and then he starts to speed up.
I accelerate a little bit and go into the other lane and pace with him, yes I meant to say Pace

then We get into a single lane again and he slows down a little bit...then we get to another redlight

THis time He decides to be stupid..he pokes along..
then as we get to speed he tries to brake check me(ppl have tried before but they never mess me up doin that"

I back off a little bit, Look to make suer there is no oncoming trafffic I then get on it and pass him, hitting probaly around 65-70 then when I have enough room I get back into the lane...

It dual lanes again and I go to turn off seeeing as he doesnt want to run with me, then he comes flying past....WOW BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT!

I maen if he thought he had the power to mess with me, why didnt he run with me?

ANyone have this problem?

Roddimus Prime December-10th-2005 04:20 PM

the problem with acting like an idiot on public roads or not knowing when to quit screwing around on surface streets?

Don't be a punk kid. Drive safely on the streets. we just lost one of our friends to wreckless driving. You in a hurry to meet him?

EXACTLY- I have never been a fan of street racing, its pointless- Take it to the Track- thats just IMO- if the track is closed- no need to act like an asshat- again just IMO

Roddimus Prime December-11th-2005 01:14 AM

nothing like burying a friend to teach you a lesson.

ghettopro December-11th-2005 10:15 AM

Well, for one, I dont think that 65mph with no traffic around is that drastic, or drastic enough to twist a thread out of line, and If there was a track around here, I would go to it.

but considering theres no track around here, I really cant see how law expects to cut down on racing,

This town is retarded, If someone requested to have a track made, and had a ton of ppl backing him or her, it still wouldnt happen, this town has more money than people thinks it does, but it ends up in peoples pockets and not the town..

now if i ran 100+ like I used to I cuold understand the yelling or lecturing but oh well..
I just dont understand, which I will find out more than likey, on how any other thing posted in "racing stories" It seems that 95% of the ones I read, do not end up like this...

oh well...

Roddimus Prime December-11th-2005 12:02 PM

no'one yelled or lectured. I was just letting you know that one of our friends died by not obeying traffic laws.

I dont comment on other street racing stories but since this just happened I felt it neceessary to maybe impart some wisdom.

If you feel street racing or street pestering is ok because you may have to drive somewhere else to go to a track then go right ahaead but no'one here is going to think it's cool or congratulate you anymore.

when you're older you'll understand.

ghettopro December-11th-2005 01:13 PM

Alright, Sorry

I just thought It would be something to talk about, sorry bout your friend tho, I can understand where you are coming from.

I just dont want to have any arguements over something this small started(which i dont think will happen anyways) I just dont like to fued with my "internet family" haha

Foxxxy December-11th-2005 04:31 PM

Sorry if it seemed like I was coming off harsh too, just pointing out my opinion- I have people trying to race me all the time thinking that a N/A auto Pro is fast. My husband is the same way as me- people try to get him to race and he always tells them to take it to the track and doesnt satisfy them by running them, he will just slow down. Street Cred doesnt mean much to him or any of our friends anymore- He would rather continue his trophy winning here in SF than get a ticket on the streets.

ghettopro December-11th-2005 06:05 PM

I know how that feels, Mine is an N/A automatic also, they just go insane when they see green neons all around the car, before i had my neons this never happend...oh well

vegasdriver December-11th-2005 06:39 PM

Yes, that happens to me all too often, usuallly in the late hours and usually by other Japanese imports.
Plenty of idiots around! So what if they can beat me going faster? Big **cking deal :asshole: They should grow up and get a life!

ghettopro December-11th-2005 07:01 PM

haha, thats prety much well said

Foxxxy December-11th-2005 11:44 PM

Thing is if you owned a Evo or a decently quick ride say 13-14 second 1/4, you would do the same thing- to cars that look just like yours.

ghettopro December-12th-2005 03:55 PM

Actually, I woudlnt, Im alot more respectful than that, IF i had a car taht quick, I would pick on my own size.

Buck December-12th-2005 10:37 PM

That stems from the so called "Ricer" stigma that comes from Neons on cars. People see that and think, haha, i bet that car is all show and no go, so they test you. People generally see a car with that kind of stuff done to it, i.e. a big gaudy spoiler, or neons or even a huge coffee can exhaust, and they think it would be funny to prove they are faster. This is especially true for people who own American muscle such as a Camero or a mustang. In my opinion, it just makes u look stupid (not saying u are stupid :))when u TRY to race cars like this with a little Protege. I get dogged by Mustangs and all sorts of newer Diesel pickups ( Not very many Protege's stand a chance against a fixed up Powerstroke or a Cummins), I just realize that I probably don't stand a chance so I don't even try. It helps avoid looking like a wanna be ricer and foremost an idiot. Now occasionally I have been provoked by the occasional Honda who thought they were bad ass and I proved them wrong, but only till I got up to the speedlimit (theres lots of 45 and 50 mph areas around Reno:)). That was enough time for them to see me pulling on them then I shut it down, they learn their lesson, end of story. U have to carefully chose when u want to put yourself out like that, To put yourself in a sticky position is one thing, to put other innocent people in a sticky situation is another.

Anarchistchiken December-14th-2005 04:42 AM

Street racing is stupid. I know too many people who have been directly or indirectly hurt, and not until recently, killed, because they were just driving too fast on the street. It's great to drive spiritidly around, I do it all the time, but I never try to race anyone, cause that's just asking for trouble.

And trying to race a camaro, I dont car what year or model, in a 1.6 liter automatic protege is just not smart..... In fact, I guess I really shouldnt be worried about you going too fast, huh?

*watch thr language Miller*

Phantom Cruiser December-14th-2005 07:47 AM

I have people doing "stupid" stuff all the time when I'm out in my cars. I tend to ignore them and just go about my business. It's just not worth it. I'll laugh & wave when they crash.

I like my cars too much I guess...plus, I'm old, like Matty said ;)

Roddimus Prime December-14th-2005 10:47 AM

yeah, the older I get the more I realize how stupid I was as a kid. I thought I knew everything and older people were always telling me how stupid I was and I said to myself "I'm a good driver. I know how to be safe" B.S. I had one wreck where I was doing 80mph on the interstate in my 67 GT and had a right rear blow out and was almost t-boned by an 18wheeler. I could control the car when I was driving aggressively but sometimes stuff pops up you can't predict or prepare for and then you're screwed.

The only reason I did what I did is b/c I get tired of them, now that I think of it, its not hard to make a V6 loud, so he may have been just loud and no pull....

If I were to race 100+ in a 55, like i did with the 5speed 03 S10, then I could see you yelling....but 60 in a 45?

then again, maybe im just YOUNG....and....STUPID...oh well...besides the raods were completly empty and noting was around...only people hrt would have been me and the camaro...but serves us right doesnt it?anyways

now 95% of the time, If i do race, I race to the speed limit and maybe a little over
maybe
65-55
50-45
40-30

wanna dog me about that? go ahead, the cops around here dont even stop you for that.

I was riding with my dad one day when he was working
in his 2002 Chevy Impala(pictures in my neon thread)

I watched him clock a truck 70mph in the 55....only god knows why he ddint stop him...even I would have...

Ill talk more on this later, my class is about to end.

p.s. and chicken, mine is a 1.8...

Roddimus Prime December-14th-2005 12:14 PM

this is EXACTLY what I was talking about....you know better than the rest of us. There was no'one else around blah blah blah....

one of these days you'll bury a friend and understand why we gripe.

macdaddyslomo December-14th-2005 12:20 PM

.I get "tested" all the time by Mustangs and Camaro's....I don't bother..it's a waste of gas for both of us.....

I admit I have had the occasional stop light battle, but mine are usually at 3 AM in a faster car than my protege and I still shut down at 65...I'm more afraid of that damn speeding ticket than killing myself....

Foxxxy December-14th-2005 12:28 PM

I would have to say this- I have street raced- had a fun time doing it, as you get older you will see whats up, its not about you. You tend to see the bigger picture, No one is really griping on you for doing it, because at one point in time everyone has done it. Growing up brings new responsibilities where- for example- you were racing that guy, now say you have a family at home- wife kids etc- and you start to fly by him, and something unexpectadly happens- you hit someone- or wreck your car. Then what does your family that you are responsible for do after that. These are just the types of questions you ask yourself before you pull a stunt.

I am pretty sure I speak for everyone here when I say we were all in your shoes once catching the same crap you are right now- look at it this way- we are trying to keep you alive... You are probably a very strong driver and can drive your way out of many situations, but it only takes one un-expected thing to put you out. My post here is not a bad thing- just trying to help further explain...

ghettopro December-14th-2005 04:00 PM

"this is EXACTLY what I was talking about....you know better than the rest of us. There was no'one else around blah blah blah....

I never said I knew more than you, what I have said are my views on a situation, it may not be right, I belive in a few things that people dont agree with, but thats why we all have our opinion. Im sure you know a hell of a lot more than I do about driving( I would hope so)
I just dont see what the big deal is tho, but I know you will say anytyhing little thing can happen..

Im only assuming you are going to say that, and that doesnt mean imsaying i know more than you...

Foxxxy, what you said has summed it up better for me to understand, tho I am 17 and dont have kids, i still get what ur saying.

Once again.....No one is yelling or griping at you. (is it possible to yell on a forum? :)) We are just giving our 2 cents. Just cuz we don't agree doesn't mean we are griping. Hell I'm not saying Im past the whole macho man thing. Im a twenty one year old college student. I still have a lot of growing up to do myself :) I know what u are talking about. I have been in your situation, I have even made some stupid decisions recently! Then I realize how stupid I was. It's easy to see that u have control of the situations you put yourself in, but like I was taught my whole life about driving....You have to watch out for the other guy! And to all the older people in here with families, you are the other guy they have to watch out for. They have more to worry about than just their own lives, as oppsed to us as young'ens we tend to think we are only risking our own lives. There are a lot of bad things that can happen at any speed. My sister died in a car accident a few years ago. There is nothing that can teach u more about how dangerous driving can be than that happening. One of my brother's best friends T-boned an SUV and killed the girl driving it because he was going a little bit faster than she anticipated when she pulled out. He was only going ten over the speed limit. Things happen unexpectedly, thats all anyone is trying to say. Life experience teaches u that, and eventually u will learn that...just hopefully not the way I had to and the way other people have had to learn.

ghettopro December-14th-2005 10:01 PM

For some reason I tend to understand the longer responses better. i understand what you are saying.

"You have to watch out for the other guy! "
My parents have told me that, haha

Around here people cant drive, they pull out in front of me all the freakin time when they know good and well they should wait, just yesterday this dumb@** in a minivan watched me approached her as she was at the stop sign and then when im about 3 car lenghts away, she pulls out in front of me..almost had to get into the other lane, 95% percent of the near misses I have had I was never at fault, its always people riding my @** or people pulling out in front of me..

Thats exactly the problem, Stuff u don't anticipate happening can happen when u least expect it. The best of drivers can't avoid an accident they didn't see coming. U could be messing around with another car on an empty road that seems perfectly safe but them out of the blue a car thats doing the same thing u are comes flying around a corner from nowhere, or a deer, or even a kid on a bike, or whatever. Thats the scary thing that gets most people to settle down when they are driving. It's that stuff that u don't think about until u see it happen or u have a near miss yourself you know. We all understand where u are coming from, we have all been there, made our dumb decisions and we have learned the hard way that its better to be safe than sorry. Basically, the reactions to your post weren't to put u down, but to look out for u. :). You are going to continue to have fun with your car no matter what. We just want u to be smart about it.

ghettopro December-15th-2005 10:03 AM

Thanks man, I guess I only look out for people to jump my case about everything, Guess I can never see anyone helping me, I mean look at the world we live in today.

I guess I just took what everyone was saying and twisted it out of proportion(A.D.H.D?) that may not be the problem but I have trboule with quick thinking and logical thinking sometimes.

Sorry for my outrages
and Thanks for your helping me understand

ghettopro December-15th-2005 02:07 PM

As I was driving around a while ago, I thought about what all yall said, but for some reason I understand what ur saying, but cant relly bring my self to "care", i know that sounds harsh but I look at things at a different angle, things like If I were to wreck, I think of stupid things like if it was their fdault, they would find at way to make if my fault, thats why I hate our lawmakers 90% of the time, but Im starting to grasp what you are saying and Im trying to drive safer, for instance

This after noon since we got to leave school early, I was driving down a 30-35 mph road and then this S10 comes flying up behind me, I watch him for a moment, and then when the road turned to 45mph, I got on it and pulled ahead and left him behind a bit, I look at my speedometer, and Im doing 55mph, he starts to speed up and I think to myself Ill take him when we get into the dual lane..

No!, I tell myself no, think about what all they have told you, so i then slow down to about 45mph, and then cruise at about 40mph the rest of the way home, Im driving alot better thatn I have beeb lately, on my way back to my house I looked down and I was doing 50, then I made myself slow down back to about 40,

yeah, there may still be hope for me.

p.s. lol, Rod would be proud....maybe..

Stueck December-17th-2005 10:46 PM

i have always wanted to street race, and i have been provoked, but i never took the challenge. why? cause at 18, new driver, new car... insurance is a #$%&. 1800$ every year, and thats on my dads coverage. there are some things i dont want to fu(k up

Da P-Funk! December-19th-2005 07:02 AM

Science has proven - the male brain is not fully [i am totally serious here] developed until age 25 or so.

The last part is the caution/consequence/consideration part. Most (all?) 18-19 year olds are ten feet tall and bullet-proof. I understand the "I know i just don't care (about me). What you are hearing is the benefit of the experience of the older (i did NOT say geezers:) ) people that have survived this period.

Maybe we should all should listen and consider (i didn't and still made it - but too many do not).

Now you have my $.02 worth.

amrit December-22nd-2005 12:59 PM

^^^hahahaha, that's really funny. Well, I've been doin' some "so called" racing myself and I just don't know. I could never get myself to slow down. About 60% or 70% of the time i find myself doin' 180kmh on the highways! Yeah I know that's bad, but I haven't gotten into a serious accident yet. Yeah I know, that doesn't mean I won't because I know that the more I drive like a maniac, the better chance I have of being hurt.

I still have about 3 years to get to the 25 year mark. Only time will tell if I make it or not...

Jackelope December-22nd-2005 01:16 PM

i must be a late bloomer.

What i dont understand is why in the first place would you say to yourself "Look at this guy, going faster than me, I can't stand that, I must go faster than him!."

The problem isnt that you don't know how to drive, it's that you seem to have some problem with self image or whatever. You need to chill out a little man, who cares if someone else is speeding, you don't have to match there stupidity, if someone is coming up on your ass doing 60 in a 45 and your doing 50 you should let them pass not try to race them.

What are you trying to prove by racing people on public roads? That 99% of the time are in no safe condition for any kind of racing to begin with.

no offense but you drive a 1.8 liter automatic, again no offense, but that's a slow car, why are you trying to race people?

You sound like a good buddy of mine who used to street race all the time with a SOHC Saturn SL1 sedan and thought he was hot shit, until he rolled it and luckily was unharmed.

I'll tell you right now, My dad taught me how to drive when i was 13 years old, and my dad is probably the best driver i know. And since day one he's taught me that the best drivers aren't the people that can drive fast and avoid accidents, the best drivers are the ones who don't put themselves at risk for accidents in the first place.

just keep that in mind next time somebody is coming up behind you 20+ mph than you

ghettopro December-26th-2005 12:37 AM

Everyone I know says Im a good driver, IMO, I dont think I can drive for shit when I come to performance driving, but hey then again, its a slow car, why worry? haha

as far as racing people, around here, Its not much to outrun many of the cars around here, apperently there arent that many fast ones, mostly high geared trucks like my buddies but I keep with it...

ANYWAYS, but wasnt that what I just said? how Im trying to cut back on the fastness?
oh well...long weekend anyways...I may be imagining this im so tired..
