3rd gen Protege vs. [insert loser here]

This is just for 3rd gen Proteges, I wanna know what they can beat.
So far I've only beat a 91 Prelude (caught up to him then whooped his ass like this :pfanndina ) 93 Eclipse (non-turbo, a close one), a 94 Integra (stock one), a 03 Civic sedan, and my bros 01 Corolla before he got his intake and exhaust. O yea and a ford E-250 (a/c guy wanted some:yelrotflm )

_Kansei_ December-8th-2007 08:29 PM

2004 Celica GT-S (8400rpm redline! only 03 and 04 had it) w header and full exhaust, cold air intake.
2003 RSX-S
2003 Mazdaspeed Protege

oh are we talking stock Protege? lol

Um I think stock I can beat my 4.0 V6 Mazda B4000 but that's about it

MyLowPro5 December-8th-2007 09:19 PM

little kids on there bikes....maybe.

SteveO December-9th-2007 04:04 AM

Aight, you got me.

But it my defense, I didnt know it was a tricycle type R.
And those tassels added at least 10HP.

J-Protege December-9th-2007 11:51 PM

I think I beat a school bus the other day.

Jackelope December-10th-2007 08:39 AM

3rd gen Protege vs. [!= motor powered]

;)

00protegeracer December-10th-2007 11:06 AM

come on now, the protege isnt that slow. mine got a injen cold air intake and a custom exhaust and that helped mine out alot. the only thing i could beat when it was stock was a stock civic but now i can actually try to race something other than civics. i hope my car can beat a rsx or a mazdaspeed one day too.

_Kansei_ December-10th-2007 12:21 PM

With thousands of dollars of work (4-5k) it can!

Jackelope December-10th-2007 12:39 PM

haha, i never played around in my wife's ES (automatic), but it does seem peppy, but.. so does my slow '92 SOHC autotragic...

then... both are slow compared to my MSP :) - and my MSP is slow compared to a buncha cars..

00protegeracer December-10th-2007 03:56 PM

a stock protege can beat a stock civic any day of the week, and my car isnt the fastest thing aroung but then again im not gonna get beat by grandma in the chrysler lebaron with a heavy foot.

eggynatey December-10th-2007 04:15 PM

I don't even bother trying to keep up with people at red lights, etc with my 130 to the flywheel Pro5. But put me on a road-course, or even an empty winding road, and that's where the Protege (or any Mazda, for that matter) comes into it's own.

[Brand new TC driver] "Was that a station wagon that just railed past me on the outside??" [/ driver]

00protegeracer December-10th-2007 05:25 PM

thats true, ive never actually been autocrossing (wish i could find something like that around central florida)but when i race people on curvy roads i either pull out ahead by like 2 or 3 cars(if im up front) depending on the curve, or get on their asses to the point where they kinda go off road cuz of the pressure im putting on them (if im behind them)

00protegeracer December-10th-2007 05:47 PM

matter of fact one of my boys just got a stripped 5spd 2 door civic coupe with a aem v2 intake, dc headers and exhaust and we raced. of course he got ahead of me but when we got to some curves i was able to catch up and get a little ahead of him. but then the road got straight again and he was out

_Kansei_ December-10th-2007 05:53 PM

^^ you're lucky, all the tracks here are covered with snow and closed, no racing for teh kansei until like may

Jackelope December-10th-2007 05:54 PM

sounds like you need to just take a trip to the dragon

or....

Jackelope December-10th-2007 07:06 PM

i try ;)

drop by Atlanta SCCA sometime (i'm registered as Jackelope (only raced 3 events last year)

chiefmg December-10th-2007 08:02 PM

If you don't think a Protege is slow, try driving one after driving a Speed6. Perspective is everything! On the other hand, as has been pointed out the thing handles great. I have always had fun with all my Mazdas running away from people on the back roads (which are awesome where I live, despite a lot of my old favorites being neutered due to "progress"). Guy in a mid-80s Capri was trying to stay on my butt in the RX-7 one time, he was slowly losing ground until we went over a crested railroad crossing and I swear I saw air under his car. He gave up after that. Nowadays I have fun in the Speed with people trying to follow me turning a corner, I zoom through barely braking and when they try it things get hairy (for them). Sad thing is a lot of cars can handle more than their owners are comfortable with.

One of these years I'm going to give autocrossing a try, I have been meaning to the past two years but something else always comes up. I need to get in on those cheap Mazda parts for when I start restoring my RX.

00protegeracer December-10th-2007 08:22 PM

hell yea ive been wanting to auto cross for years but i was either busy with school or some other thing. i cant wait to start autocrossing, thanks to jackelope ill hopefully at least start practicing in jan-feb. what gen is ur rx? i have a 1st gen with a turboed 13b and a stripped interior that i was hoping to get back in running condition but i started hooking my protege and decided to put it on the backburner for now until im content with the protege. plus i havent been driving for too long so im trying to build up my driving skills before i jump in rear wheel drive rotary beast.

downtube December-10th-2007 08:39 PM

pretty sure my Specialized commuter could beat my 1.6 protege off the line, say six to ten feet. my 1962 schwinn two-speed... probably even. against my v-rex (rans recumbent bicycle, not rx-7) definitely the protege wins.

00protegeracer December-11th-2007 08:11 AM

a bicycle beating a car??? i bet it wont beat my 1.3 rotary(if it was running).

if it's not running, then i'm afraid the bicycle will beat you :yelrotflm

00protegeracer December-11th-2007 10:19 AM

i can still tow it faster than a bike. plus some new tires and a clutch and im pretty sure i will be able to murder any kind of bike... or focus. turboed 13b baby rotary power. plus im pretty sure the bababababababa of a rotary sound waaay better than when u put a card on the back wheel of ur bike

Off the line when I'm on my bike I am faster than most cars. They have to wait to get to peak torque, a human can just.. be there already :P

granted I doubt anyone was really trying to race me haha

00protegeracer December-11th-2007 11:58 AM

i will lets race to the moon...on your marks...get set.... go

I caught that....:nono:

if, if, if....

if i got a new clutch, if i got new tires....no "if's" here...don't underestimate that 2.3L duratec....It runs now, not IF i spend more money on it...

I'd be happy to pit it against your protege any day

00protegeracer December-11th-2007 02:24 PM

ok whenever im in tampa(which i doubt any time soon) but ill be in spring hill thurs so if ur in the area id be more than glad to remind u that a stock focus aint shit. well see about those ifs, i think i might sell my protege and buy the tires and clutch then well see about those ifs

macdaddyslomo December-11th-2007 02:36 PM

well if your in spring hill thursday, why don't you come down and get my brothers car...he's in port richey...and i'm in in holiday, so i'm only about 20 mins from spring hill....

FYI...I don't have a regular Focus...I have a Focus ST....from what I've seen on a turbo II, you dont really have much on my Focus with that either...

Focus ST runs low 15's , same as a Turbo II RX-7

J-Protege December-12th-2007 03:55 AM

^^^ Also, that ST is sexy as hell. I'm glad to see the Focus become relevant and nice to look at.

I prefer it's look to the Mazda3.

00protegeracer December-12th-2007 10:21 AM

nah im not gonna be needing that protege my boy is giving some 17s and 2500 for the pro so i can get the rx running. already got the rims on the rx just waiting for the clutch to arrive. posting pics soon. and i dont have a turbo II i have a 1983 rx7 stripped with a 13b-rew and 6 spd from a 93 rx7. its got a custom exhaust and greddy turbo upgrade kit with the t78 that me and my pops put on. i would loooove to see a focus outrun me. st or not

00protegeracer December-12th-2007 11:12 AM

went racing yesterday with my boys. got my ass handed to me by a 5 spd cougar w/ k&n intake full exhaust, a close one in a 5 spd 93 accord w/ homemade intake(cheap) and borla exhaust he won by a little only cuz he could shift when he wanted i had to wait, a auto jetta was a easy win and a 626 with an exhaust was a close one cuz he didnt want to give up but in the end i took it.

00protegeracer December-12th-2007 11:17 AM

also forgot to say about a 02 lancer with a evo wing, vortex generator and intake exhasut. this was my favorite i love racing these cars, we took off and we were pretty even all the way up to 70, then my car started pulling away so i look up cuz the road curves a little, look to my mirror and see the lancer about 3 cars back as the distance between us is getting bigger, than look back down at the speedo and im at 95-97 somewhere around there so i back off and take the one. love racing

macdaddyslomo December-12th-2007 11:32 AM

I'll still be happy to hand your protege it's ass....

anytime.

Post pics of the Rex...

I'm sure we'd all love to see a $900 car with a $3500 engine in it(not including the transmission), that you can afford to build, but somehow aren't able to afford a clutch for ??

:bsflag:

00protegeracer December-12th-2007 12:02 PM

it wasnt my car my pops gave it to me this summer for graduating after helping him work on it all the time. sorry i dont have as much money as my pops who has a career and shit while me im just doing a little bullshit job while i get thru college. but its ok now cuz im gettin $2500 for the protege and i hope thats enough for a clutch. dont worry ill have pics up soon once i get it running so i can take a picture of it smoking its rear tires(which is y i needed new ones). and this bitch aint no 900 car, this shit is clean as fuck with my pops being its first owner. he just stopped messing with it once he got his 3rd gen. especially now with the 17" black rims w/ chrome lip on a offwhite 1st gen, this shit looks sick, cant wait to race it

00protegeracer December-12th-2007 12:10 PM

and plus honda people do that shit all the time, i mean a crx with a k20?? i think thats a little more ridiculous cuz at least my engine is from the same car but a newer year. and we didnt have to pay for it cuz he pulled it out of a 93 he had back in the day that got rear ended by someone doing 50 while he was stopped. got pictures of that too if u dont beleive me, how about u just get off my dick, every thing i post u criticize. im not one of those people that started liking cars when fast and furious came out, i loved cars since i was little, growing up around alot of rotaries and turboed mx6 got me like that and got me to love mazdas, especially the older ones. and well see whos bsing once i get those pics up

00protegeracer December-12th-2007 12:16 PM

i think ur just trying to get me banned and do it then bitch i go on here for fun but assholes like u ruin

macdaddyslomo December-12th-2007 12:34 PM

calm down, and please watch your mouth...I am a moderator...if I feel it necessary to ban you, I can do that....I just don't think it makes sense....if you are selling the protege why ask Jackelope for stickers for it, or put headers on it ???:wtf:

yes plenty of people do crazy motor swaps...but then they don't complain they can't afford a clutch either...

why would it need to run for you to post a pic...just show a pic of the car, with the 13b-rew in the engine bay.......it doesnt have to be spinning tires for you to prove you have it ....

i would think that someone who did all this work would be really proud of it, and have plenty of pics of their handiwork....

i think you just have a plain 1st gen rx-7 that doesnt run, and you are posting your wishful thinking on the internet....

you aren't the first teeny bopper to come on here bragging about dangerous street racing, thinking their idea of putting a rwd rotary into a fwd protege is unique.

i give you a hard time because i don't let bs just fly, and in most of your posts, the bs gets deep...if you don't like it, too bad

FYI, most of your "racing" claims i'm calling bs too...a 2000 lx automatic is almost THE slowest protege EVER made, surpassed only by a 2nd gen with a 1.5L and automatic....You might be lucky to run 18's, even WITH a intake and exhaust

00protegeracer December-12th-2007 01:12 PM

i dont need to explain myself to noone especially not a punk like u so go **** urself dude, u aint *** but a moderator on a online forum. ok mr know it all. i bet my dad knows his **** waaay more than u ever will working on a focus...
