What's wrong with my engine??

Haha the SHO engine is no more reliable than a rotary, it's only a myth that rotarys are bad, watch some of the rotary destruction videos on the internet, it's amazing what they can take..
Anyways, the SHO is a great engine, but one thing that I am wondering is how are you gonna mount an engine that was built for FWD into that car which is RWD? Also, how is a RWD trans from a Cobra going to fit onto the SHO? Just curious, any links to any completed swaps that I can take a gander at?
You are lucky however to have sourced a SHO engine for $0, I guess that evens out the equation a bit.

a 13b rotary WILL need a full rebuild way before a well-built piston engine.
longevity = reliability
not how much boost you can throw at it...

^^ what he said. I'm no stranger to Yamaha engines. Basically they are just regular 3.0L Duratec engines. There is nothing complex or "special" about them except for the fact they flow like the hoover dam. Numerous SHO's are getting 300K miles NA with nothing more than routine maintaince.
In order for me to complete the rotary project I would HAVE to have it rebuilt with a streeport. Not true with the SHO swap. Just a few gaskets, new fluids and some boost and I'm done.
www.grannysspeedshop.com they are the ones working on the engine cradle for me.

sorry buddy but it's gotta happen.
What's more impressive? Seeing a carb 13b under the hood with 220whp or opening the hood to find THIS (see below) with about 380-450whp and a big blower??

That's what I'm talking about hehehe.. I'm sorry but I'd rather see a 225hp Rotary under the hood of an RX-7 than any piston engine. Swap piston engines into cars with piston engines.. heh.
As far as mileage goes, hmm.. well there is a 88 Turbo II sitting in my driveway with over 150,000 miles on it, still runs fine. That's not too bad if you ask me. People just don't understand rotarys, they don't know how to tune them, take care of them, etc etc.. then when they get a blown motor it's "rotarys suck".. I'm not trying to be an *** or anything.. it's just that people are afraid of the unknown.

Search Yahoo but there have been plenty of SHO powered rangers, Shelby Cobra Kits, Dune Buggies, in fact very recently there was a Model A powered by a SHO powerplant...along with numerous other wierd things you thought you would never see a SHO engine in.
BTW matty i will prolly catch you on AIM about it but if we can set a weekend to do it i wouldnt mind driving out to do the electrical stuff

Korey, just give me a call sometime. I'm waiting to get confirmation from the fabricators to see if they're going to just modify an exsisting cradle or have to start from scratch (and add months to the build time). The electrical will suck for me because I want to hide as much as possible and I've got HID's on the way so that will be going in as well. Also re-wiring of a several key componants like fuel pumps, push button starters and other auxillary pieces. It would be a weekend full of wiring! I'll pay for your gas!
Rotaries are cool and all but it's just not economical to do a carb build like this if I'm wanting more power. The SHO will provide more power than I'd ever be able to handle. The carb motor will be just a quick nimbler handler. The SHO-FC will be a monster and very scarey.

Another plus for this SHO project is that it will easily get 2-3 times better gas milage than the rotary. Even though its not something you consider on a weekend warrior car its always important with gas prices how they are these days.
