How come you have a white one?!They are avaliable over there in colombus? Here in Canada we dont have whites.. Sigh...

WeeBieP5 September-29th-2001 03:00 PM

tweeters

Hey JKing. Nice pics of the car!!! I was just wondering if i could maybe get some details of how you installed those tweeters in the plastic traingles by the side mirors. did you cut the plastic?? how did you secure it there and make it look so stock??? what about the crossover?? where did you locate it?? I am hoping to put a pioneer component set that i have, up front in my P5 but i am still deciding how i should do it. Your help would be much appreciated.
Thanx

jking September-29th-2001 04:20 PM

Initial I have only seen two white pro5's Mine and a picture on the internet of another one. So I really dont know. Maybe they didnt make that many white ones.

As for installed the tweeters and crossover. The triangle plate pops off. I had to drill 3 holes. 2 holes hold the mounting braket in place with screws provided. Make sure you drill them at the correct size or it wont hold. The third hole was to run the speaker wire to. I ran the speaker wire behind the door panel and it comes out into the 'pocket' at the bottom of the door. I ran the tweeter, mid, and input wire all to the 'pocket'. My crossovers came with this nylon stripping which is kind of like two sided tape. I hooked all wires up to the crossover then stuck it on the inside of the pocket. DO NOT PLACE CROSSOVER INSIDE OF DOOR it gets wet in there. I hope I answered all your questions.

thanx jking
thats waht i would like to do, but i dont think i can cause i am leasing the car, so i dont know if i can drill. I have a set of Alpine 2way 5.25s maybe i will just put those in instead. I dont know

any ideas?

jking September-29th-2001 06:13 PM

I'm sure you could get those triangle pieces through the parts department of your dealer. I cant imagine them being very expensive. I would buy a extra set of the triangle plates then when your lease is up replace them. That is the only spot you have to drill

WeeBieP5 September-29th-2001 06:45 PM

not bad

not a bad idea. i will check out the price of the triangles on monday. Hopefully they wont be that expensive. The only problem now is where to put the crossover. Originally i was thinking i would just leave it inside the door. But apparantley it gets wet and there and i dont want the crossover gettin wet and shorting something out. So where do you think i could put the crossover?? i havent actually had the door panel off myself yet so i dont know exactly what it is like in there.

jking September-29th-2001 06:49 PM

put it where i put mine, the 'pocket' at the bottom of the door you can fit the wires through the edge so there is no drilling. mount the crossover with 2 sided tape

WeeBieP5 September-29th-2001 07:13 PM

sounds good

that sounds fine to me but what edge do you mean?? and you mean the like map pocket right??

jking September-29th-2001 08:53 PM

When you end up taking the panel off on the back side of the panel you will see the pocket. The pocket is a seperate piece that is stuck to the door panel. Where the two pieces meet there is leway so you can put the speaker wires through. Tomorrow I will try to get some pictures.

WeeBieP5 September-29th-2001 10:00 PM

pocket??

http://www.astolfo.com/p5/p5install.asp?track=2&mode=8

by pocket do you mean that black plastic thing on the bottom right side??

WeeBieP5 September-29th-2001 10:01 PM

sorry that picture didnt work.

WeeBieP5 September-29th-2001 10:02 PM

my icq is 12091096 by the way if you wanna talk

jking September-30th-2001 12:31 AM

If you are looking at your front door. And you look at the bottom you'll see your speaker right next to that is the 'pocket' 'cubby hole' whatever you wanna call it.

TrexPro5 September-30th-2001 02:40 AM

lol, dont tell me you bought the white one from Ricart!! lol... I was gonna buy that one ;-)... but they dicked me and I went to Byers... anyway... nice ride maybe see you driving around columbus sometime. Btw.. I have a Red one... stock for now...

ok, i found this picture of the inside of the passeger door. So is the pocket you are talking about the black thing in the bottom right of this picture???

jking September-30th-2001 04:24 PM

No it is on the actual door. With the panel on it is right next to the speaker. You can put whatever you want in it.

WeeBieP5 September-30th-2001 05:00 PM

NegatiZE September-30th-2001 07:30 PM

OMG
I have one too !!!!!!! Well I don't have a pure white protege 5. I have a pure white Protege ES 2.0 (2001).

It's a very rare colour for the p5 and ES. Especially with tinted windows. Yours are tinted too right ? So are mine.

Very good choice in color ;-)

jking October-1st-2001 01:07 PM

I havent added any extra tint to mine but I will shortly

jking October-2nd-2001 10:33 PM

I'm probably going to start with the Ground Control coilovers because they use eibach springs and i can adjust my height and I will also buy struts at the same time not sure which ones yet. Then next will CAI, Cat back

And that will probably be all until I see what next years model is gonna be like

SLPRprotege October-9th-2001 11:58 AM

I might try that tweeter setup in my 92 pro. I have those nice triangle caps that just pop out. Sucks not have in dash speakers. The 5 1/4's in the doors just don't get that loud.
