Chevy's answer to the RX-8

At the 2003 Detroit auto show, Chevrolet unveiled it's new concept sports car called the Chevrolet SS. Can you say copy cat?

The fronts strikes a close resemblance, CLOSE but not quite.

The rear is nowhere near but has the dual exhaust spread far apart. Same as the RX-8.

The interior, nowhere near.

The definately bit off Mazda with the four door sports car concept. Keep in mind, this is only a concept. Makes you think though. If they do decide to produce it, how close is the real thing going to look to the RX-8?

it's not supposed to.

that SS will probably be much bigger than the rx8. the rx8 is actually quite small.

I think it was an AutoWeek that I was paging through that had these two as the "body double of the week".

I guess it'll come down to, do you want quality and pay for it or do you want quantity and pay for it. I believe the RX8 is the original, the SS is the poser. But hey, american auto makers have been playing 'catch-up' for years. Obviously, they are still do it.

I just think it's straight bullshit. They even copied the wheel design.

Actually, I don't like the exhaust layout either. If they had put them down closer and in farther, you'd have a Chev RX8. There should be a copyright enfringement.

Thats just awful! What the heck? Theres gotta be more to that. Chevy couldnt possibly be so dumb as to not have forseen being called copycats!

But then again all north american companies seem to do is copy the older cars so maybe all they know how to do is plagerize designs. Hense that new mustang concept or model. Which by the way looks sweet but no respect to ford for not keeping it fresh.

If you will notice though, the SS has a B-pillar. Where as the RX-8 has "suicide" doors and no B-pillar. The SS is also alot bigger from what I understand.

later,

Two things I noticed:
the "shark gills" on the SS are pretty damn cool,
The "B"- pillar on the SS is the perfect height to whack you in the pills when you get in/out of the car!
Maybe they'll come standerd with a "cup"!

I read about a nice thing in SS. You can actually shut down half the engine if you wanna save gas. 4-cyl SS
