Ambients Turbo Protege 8/21/02

Here are the pictures finally though the entire kit is not finished. Some of it is jerry-rigged right now, but it's coming together.

Interior shot with molded A-pillar and custom 3 gauge pod in the second DIN. Still have to order my EGT gauge. Turbo timer is mounted in front of the short shifter. Gauges include Boost, A/F, Oil Pressure, Oil Temp and EGT

Here is the actual turbo...had to use a little duct tape to stop a vacuum leak until I could get extra piping...and notice the elite zip tie holding all the other stuff together.

Here is the charge pipe with the TurboXS BOV, until the intercooler piping comes in.

And here is the entire engine bay. I will update these pictures once the entire kit is finished and it looks much more pretty. A Vortech 10:1 FMU controls the fuel and is the blue disc you see against the firewall.

nice setup...did you piece it together yourself and if so where did you get each of the parts...and how are you fooling the MAF into not sensing the boost??? check valve???...and what are you going to do to cool the engine against all that extra heat??? if you did yourself how did you hook up the FMU?? sorry about the 20 questions but I'm gonna go turbo myself and most of it will prob be a DIY job. I need all the help I can get

The turbo kit was bought CHDesign as a whole, he custom made a lot of stuff. It was his only kit.

The MAF doesn't see boost, but the stock boost sensor is fooled by 2 check valves. I'm probably going to be putting another inline as I'm getting a CEL.

The engine temperature is fine with no extra cooling addons. I've driven in 90 degree weather and everything is working good with the turbo itself.

FMU is simple. Take the line coming from the stock FPR. That line is the return line to your tank...put the FMU inline by a little splicing action. and then T off the Vacuum line that was going to the FPR.

Don't worry abou the questions, I was the exact same way.

I am having one problem...and it seems to be with my flywheel. Think of the clutch stutter 5X over and you can feel it in the pedals...got a professional estimate and they said it was stress cracks in the flywheel making the clutch jump during engagement So more reason to get the lightened flywheel.

so i guess your next mods are new fly wheel and a heavy duty clutch? unless you already have the clutch.....so where did chdesign get the downpipe and manifold?? custom?? and I thought he had a Starion intercooler...did you just not install it yet?? and how much boost are you running....oh...and the only thing you are using for fuel management is the Vortech 12:1???Braden told me I'd need that and bigger injectors along with an Apexi S-AFC??

Ambient's car runs awesome. I have experienced it first hand from behind the wheel. I can't decide if I'm going to copy his kit or if I'm going to sell my car for a WRX. Decisions are hard these days.....
AMBIENT: We need to take more pics of the new intake too and get rid of the rigged up ones....
