Sorry if I sounded like somewhat of an ass. You need to add the "www" in your profile. I tried that link and got a page under construction message, which made me think something was fishy. The link in your last post works and under the "About" section it states the relationship with SLP Engineering, SLP Performance Parts and GM.

I've seen several SLP hoods on Grand Prixs and really like the product. Can I get a special deal if I get one for my Grand Prix and one for my Protege5? ;)

SLP Tuner February-11th-2003 02:01 AM

thanks, the www has been added. The grand Prix hood is a SLP Engineering Hood, and the protege hood is a PowerProduct. Although they are made in the same building they are two seperate lines. The GTX goes through SLP Eng. You definetly would be able to save cost on shipping. I'd have to refer you to a one of my vendors who sells both. Here is my email if you want more info.

Ok.. After thinking about this.. I'm kind of lost. Could you explain the differences if I'm not right here..

SLP Tuner Hood lift off hood requires 4 hood pins (non-functional) - self explanatory?

SLP Tuner Hinge mount requires 2 front hood pins (non-functional) - factory hinge and hood pins on front?

SLP Powerproduct gel coat (functional) - not sure..

SLP Powerproduct primed (functional) - same as directly above, except pre-primed?

Do the last two have an open vent? And are hood pins needed for the hood? I checked the website and the first two were listed, but not the latter two. Thanks. :)

Difference with SLP Hoods

SLP Tuner Hood lift off hood requires 4 hood pins (non-functional) $197.15

Simply a cosmetitic panels that is mounted to the car using 4 hood pins. The air take hole is not precut since there is no under structure in order to direct the air to the air intake.
This is used for racing application it weighs about 10.5 lbs.

SLP Tuner Hinge mount requires 2 front hood pins (non-functional) $262.51

A hood which is bolted on to the rear hinges. It opens and closes like a regular hood but once again there is only a partial under structure (rear section only). The air intake is still not functional, and 2 hoodpins in front of the hood are required.

SLP Powerproduct gel coat (functional) $ 659.55 US

A complete true hood, two panels are bonded together to give the hood rigidity and functionality. Air induction is functional since the bottom skin creates the chaneling to direct air but not rain water to the air intake. Added with this is internal ecoated hardware (latch, hinges, prop-rod stand are bonded in). Crush initiators are designed into the hood to insures proper energy dispersion during impact. So yes vents are open and no hood pins are required.

SLP Powerproduct primed (functional) $ 854.49 US

Same as above but SLP bodies and primes the hood ready for paint.

There is a feature that does not come out on pictures, there is a sort of flat spot in front of the grille that matches the shape of the radiator cooling grille on the bumper.

I was about to call "RICE" until I read on a little further and saw that it's actually functional. Prolly good for a 2-5hp gain with induction piping. Is the a TMIC for the Protegés with aftermarket turbos? That would be a perfect hood.

SLP, you need to produce a TII hood for the FC market and post it on the rx7forum--you'd make a killing at the right price. Good work!

Sorry.. thread officially turned into a sale thread and no longer an opinion thread. :) So, i'm moving to it's appropriate section. BTW, I think it looks kinda cool... and if it's functional, right on.

Hood

Ok I Like it........ but it resembles a subaru 2 much for me!

Roof looks good tho I should hve pics of my rack removed up soon!

poktrokt February-11th-2003 02:11 PM

Need to move the vent farther forward. Looks too much like a wrx hood. Maybe a different style to the vent as well. Looks good, not for me though.

I originally saw this on clubprotegequebec.com but couldnt post my question since Im not a member.

Your website states that this hood is not suitable for highway driving. Is that true or does that not apply to the hood?

SLP Tuner February-11th-2003 04:10 PM

The complete hood (powerproduct) is for highway use. The other two are similar to other aftermarket hoods out there. For race application only. It's a simple cosmetic skin without a front latch. Explains why the price is nearly half.

SedanMan

Check back club protege quebec, since we have access to a paint facility we are trying to regroup a group buy on a fully painted installed hood at a rebate price. Given no shipping would be involved and to paint a series in the same color would really make it interesting.
