Need Guage Cluster

While my friend was trying to put indiglo's in his Protege, he screwed up the needle (don't know why he had problems putting in indiglo's), anyhow, he screwed his speedometer up and it won't register his speed.

Question, he wants to find a salvaged guage cluster to replace his broken one, however, he fears odometer fraud (new cluster will have different mileage). My question is, since it is a digital odometer, does the mileage read off the ECU, or is it stored in the odometer?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Dave

gauges

When you buy a new cluster it will show the mileage of the cluster. It has like a memory or something. You can change the mileage tho. But not sure where. I have one im selling it. If you have any questions just e-mail me at RajaSingh2002@aol.com. The cluster is for a Mazda Protege 99-01.

Broke the Speedometer?

That a first, usually it's the needles. I would talk to Mazda first before looking for a new cluster. Somebody here might know. Might be just a wiring problem.

i have the same problem. when i first got my pro about a year ago, i was an idiot and bought the indiglo gauges. the instructions said to remove the gauge needles and place the gauge faces on () So i did, and the gas and engine temp gauges broke, and the speedometer and tach are crap (dont register true values). so ive been driving like that since then. kinda hard, have to judge speed by everyone else.

i called the local mazda dealers in the area, and the lowest price i got was $375 for the console, and then another $200 for installation (although installation is only connecting 2 plugs, and putting in some screws). and that was the lowest!

ive been considering just buying the console myself and installing it, but then ill have an invalid milage, which isnt good with a warranty . so i dunno what to do.

anyone selling one? got any suggestions? Thanx
