You are thinking of the Cosworth Vega, only made in '75 and '76. It was quick for a four-banger--at the time---but only about as quick as the FS-DE now. Many similarities to our engine as well. 130 HP, 2.0L, curb weight of about 2800lbs, handled better than anything in it's class back then.

The sad thing is that Cosworths's and Chevy's original plan for the Cosworth put it at about 190hp--N/A. Then along came the emissions laws that steadily choked it down to 130.

The Cosworth Vega is one of my favorite cars and my goal is to buy one and built it back to Cosworth's original specs.

I always lusted after a Cosworth Vega. That would be so cool if you can do what you want with one.

1974 VW Beetle. 64hp, 165 rubber, and rear weight bias made for some surprisingly nice power-on oversteer.

'87 4 cylinder Mustang. Looked very nice black w/ silver racing stripes and GT tail lights.
Then a '95 Wrangler, see list of mods below.
Now the 2003 P5.
