i'm thinking about getting a used car soon, and i'd like it to be a mazda. i know an older gen protege would be an obvious choice, but i was wondering what you guys thought about mx-3s and mx-6s? i thought they'd be kinda nice to have since they dont seem to be as common on the roads.. but how are they in the performance and reliability departments?

My ex girlfriend had a '88 MX-6 GT. It was a turbo, so it had nice power, it was a fun car to drive. It also had other cool stuff like electroniclly controlled suspension. There were 3 'settings' you could choose from like 'sport', 'regular', and something else. It was a sweet car. I don't know where you live, but around here, I've seen a few older GTs for sale. I think they would be the way to go.

the 1gen MX6 appear to be very durable. My Father in Laws went for 200k on all original parts. At that time he replaced the rotors and the exhaust. It still has the original clutch, alternator, and waterpump. This was just the 2.2 but I am very impressed as we had the car for 6 months without any problems. We did finally have to give it up as the front end was rusting and had become unabel to attach a new tie rod (the original was finally going) Anyway I've heard lots of bad things abotu the 1gen of the probe but don't know why they were so bad as they had the same engines and drivetrain as the MX6. I woudl recommend just making sure that you get a 5spd, and look over it thorouhly, Mx6 and probes were favorite teenager cars and most have been beaten fairly badly, also they seem to be targets for car thieves, my wife's (father in laws) was broken into 2x in the six months we had it.

Thumbs up

This was the car I had befor I got my P5. I was soo upset to give her up but there was just way too much wrong with her and she had 250000KMs on her. I went through hitting a bear, a dear, a raccoon, a cat and a car backing up into her. If Mazda was still making the MX3 Precidia I would buy another one at the drop of a hat!!! I loved that car. People say its a chick car which is kool cause I'm a chick but I saw a helluvalot of guys cruising in them.

about the bear.

I was comming home from visiting Edmonton Alberta and a black bear came running out onto the road and hit the side of my car and rolled all along the drivers side denting the front panel above the front tire and then cracking the back panel above the tire!!! I couldnt believe that one!!!
