Perspective.

I know many of us come to the off-topic section to bitch and moan, and it's my turn now.

At 14 weeks pregnant, my wife miscarried yesterday.

Basically, after a week or 10 days of light "spotting" (bleeding - not really out of the ordinary for a pregnant woman), her water broke. Within a day, all the amniotic fluid had drained, and our unborn child was dead. Most likely from an infection of some kind, according to the obgyn.

The doc surgically removed the fetus yesterday.

We're keeping a stiff upper lip about it, and recognize that this was her body's way of deciding that something just wasn't right, and the pregnancy needed to be stopped. Nature works in mysterious ways, and why this happened will probably never be determined, nor does it really matter.

We're young and fertile, so we'll be at it again in no time. But for now, it's pretty traumatic. We've got sonogram tapes with little kicks and hands and feet and a heartbeat. Luckily we hadn't made any real preparations yet - no baby furniture, no nursery. But for now, it's still a tough pill to swallow.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have a friend who went the whole nine months and then gave birth but the baby died in the birth canal because the cord was wrapped around his neck. I can only imagine how it must feel to lose something so important.

HiHo,

I am very sorry to hear of your troubles....and I for one can say I know exactly how you feel....my wife and I went through this very thing. You, my friend, hit the nail on the head through...and realize that this was your wifes bodies way of saying there was something wrong. Potentially things could have been much worse had it not. Just show one another lots of love and understanding and move on to new things within your lives. I am sure the doc told you this sort of thing is not all that uncommon....and it happens for a reason. Just keep practicing makin those tri-cycle motors and sooner or later you will have one of your very own.

Soory to hear of your loss Hiho. As you pointed out, there was likely a good reason. I know of several people who have been through the same thing, one couple in particular who had some issues conceiving in the first place, and were really devastated when she miscarried. They have twins now!

I appreciate all the thoughts.

We're getting there.

Luckily, we have no trouble conceiving at all - this is actually her second pregnancy (the first one stopped very early - too early to really "count it", if you know what I mean), and neither the first one nor this one were planned.

Even with my "good rhythym", a few swimmers were still able to get to the end of the race .

We're just trying to laugh whenever possible, and it's helping. Trying to get back into the normal pace of life - takes time, but it'll happen.

Our anniversary - one year - is this coming Monday, so we're spending Saturday night in Atlantic City - gonna play some hold 'em and stay at a nice bed & Breakfast outside the city. Hopefully we can continue to take advantage of this new-found time we will have, do some stuff, and then get knocked up in a year or so.

Thanks again to all for the kind sentiments.

I am very sorry to hear about that, HiHo...
You always seem so focused, and i know you'll make a great dad!
I am sure you both will bounce back even higher;
and besides, you get to keep trying, which is really the fun part (wink-wink; nudge-nudge)
