As far as an '02 Accord having rear drums, it's hardly a sports car....nor does it make the V8 stang's rear drums any less lame.

true about the 4 cyl. but you take away the four back then and the 6 now and there wouldn't be a mustang. ford would not make a v8, it wouldn't get enought sales to keep producing the car. and about the accord, i didn't say its a sports car i just meant that nowadays in the 21 century we still have cars with drum brakes. all those I4 and v6 engines let you enjoy the v8 mustang, then and today.

However, I'm not aware of any car with the acceleration and muscle near the level of the Mustang that doesn't have anything but 4 wheel discs.
I know the 4 and 6 stangs helped sales but not from any contribution by me. I bought 2 5.0 V8s stangs and would never consider buying a 4 or a 6. If not the V8, I'd rather just get an import. A mustang without a V8 to me =

like i said, some people like the styling. i didn't buy they protege because its nimble..... I bought it because it looks damn good in yellow and really stands out from all the other sedans and small wagons. Its like a choice between pro or p5. sedan doesn't come in yellow, doesn't come with fogs so I bought the p5. its a personal choice. we bought our mustang used allready as a means of transportation and I fell in love with it. in the future when you got 5.0s restored at car shows, I am sure my 4 will gather some attention for being unique... or maybe not

To the original poster... Please don't try to make excuses for the brake system on the 86-93 Fox3 Mustang (excluding the 93 Cobra). The brakes on these cars are WORTHLESS. My rear drums may work fine on my 2500 lb, 120 hp Protege, but there is no excuse for attaching a brake system that's virtually the SAME SIZE to a 3000+ lb car with 225 hp. I spent years hanging around with a bunch of Mustang junkies during the 5.0's heyday, and NONE of them had stock brakes because the stock system couldn't handle ONE LAP at the local racetrack. Even with aftermarket pads, they would start to fade before you made it all the way around.
However, this HAS had one pleasant side effect- aftermarket brake conversions are cheaper, more plentiful, and more thoroughly well-engineered for the Fox3 than for any other car. If you own a Fox3, IMHO you NEED aftermarket brakes.
No offense.

non taken. but that was back then. this is now. having drum brakes now is unacceptable on any car. back then it was a way to save money and make the car more affordable. ****, why don't they put 12 airbags into a protege... would you want to pay $25 grand for it? drum brakes were a compromise. you have to delete some items in order to add other.

I bought a Protege b/c of the way they drive first and foremost. The way they look is an added bonus to me. Well I guess to each his own about colors. I'm just not a fan of yellow on the P5.....just looks out of place flashy on a car that practically looks like a small station wagon....especially in that color. But that's me.
