Epitome of Jealousy '02 Celica GTS(Long)

A friend of mine, the one that I actually bought my Protege from, has a '02 Celica GT-S. He just put it in the shop a month ago or so to get a lot of work done to it before carlisle.

First off, he's getting it painted a totally different color. It's the deep blueish/black color right now, and he's getting it painted a titanium silver, a gunmetal-ish color I guess. None of the paint work is done yet (read why below).

He just got 18s for it, and some nice-*** tires. They're sitting on the car right now.

He got the Veilside bodykit with wing, and that's getting molded on. He's also going to get a custom fiberglass enclosure for the rear hatch for two 10" type-r subs (I think, I don't know much about car audio) and two amps. That will be painted to match the car exterior.

He's getting the door handles and antenna shaved, the doors will open with a remote popper, much like the keyless entry systems.

Now for the fun part, keep in mind this is going to be a show car. He got a call a week ago from the guy who's doing all the work. The guy asked him if he had an extra couple hundred for a kit for.......... Lambo doors. The guy doing all the work is going to sponsor him, he's doing the labor for free (for the doors anyway), and paying for half the kit. He's been working on getting the kit perfected on one of the doors up until Tuesday I think.

On Tuesday he got fed up with the kit that he got from wherever it was, and ordered another kit from a more reputable company. The new company has yet to have a toyota with their kit on the doors, so they want to use his car on their website (probably getting the kit for free, at least), and possibly sponsor him too.

The guy got the kit Wednesday, I think, and had the door perfected (he started on the 'clean' door) yesterday. He's going to have to cut the old hinge out of the other door and re-weld some metal as to start over.

The cool thing is, the door will still be popped by the remote, but it won't swing up by itself (otherwise it would be too hard to close). It's going to be amazing when it's done, I think he'll win his class in carlisle.

Anyway, he took some pictures, but I have the imagestation link back on my computer at home. When I get home tonight I'll put the link in here so you can see the doors.

Amazing

IMHO, I could certainly find a better way to spend my money on a car. But to each his own I guess .

I like the pic of the cat in the wheel

edit:: P.S. tell your buddy to get one of those glass smashing hammers... if you roll with scissor doors things could get hairy.

Good thing it's not your money, and it won't be his either. I wouldn't be suprised if the second hinge manufacturer didn't charge them for the hinge, not to mention the free labor from the shop. Free + free = how much? Ahhhh the life of being sponsored.
