350Z or G35 or RX-8
i was pretty much set on getting the RX-8 (name + deposit on waiting list), but the news of 180 WHP (will supposedly open up after 3-5K miles on the odometer) on a dyno and a wait list is starting to get to me.
where i live, there's a 6 month waiting list for the 350Z, but there's an indefinite wait list for the RX-8. the G35 is another option. bit more costly though. no real other contenders i can think of without going into sedans(yeah i know the RX is a 4 door). should i wait for the RX-8? |

RX-8.

If the G35's are available in your area I would get one of those. Nothing wrong with a little luxury.

For looks, I say rx-8. For speed, 350Z. For looks and speed, G35.
lol...Like I made it any easier.:p I love both the G35 and RX-8. They are both sooooo sexy. |
Have you driven all three? I've driven... Oh, none of them, but the 350z and the g35 and totally different cars from the rx-8.
They don't have a 9k redline, but they have probably THE best V6 platform on the market. Great torque (which is excellent for everyday driving), and good power from a 3.5l V6. Greddy also has a turbo kit out (or soon out) with some very nice HP numbers... That's something else to think about if you ever ran into a boatload of cash :) Drive all of them (if you can drive an rx-8, probably tough), and pick the one that you like the best for what kind of driving you're going to be doing... |
Well here are my two cents. The RX-8 would be my number one choice but you must consider that it is a very unstable car. My bro has an RX-7 and they are hard to fix and to find a really good mechanic is a whole other story. The 350 I used to like but I realized that they are way too big for a two seater sports car and they dont look as nice as the RX-8. The skyline/g35 is a great choice too. It looks really nice with a mixture of luxury and sports all in one. Choices choices. BTW you are a lucky bastard!

I actually saw my first RX-8 yesterday (cranked on the brakes, backed up, and talked to the guy in his driveway). They have such a sweet ass end, even in silver (which I am not a big fan of). Both (or 3) cars you mentioned are gorgeous, so I would go for the RX-8 for two reasons:
1. The cool factor - rotaries are rare, and people and impressed by rare, unique cars. 2. The price - by my figures, an RX-8 can be had for 5000 less (CAD) than a 350Z. Though I honestly think you would have to drive them both before deciding (if that is possible). |
Just get an RX-8

All of the above assumes you're buying a stick. With an auto, just about everything with kick the RX-8s butt. (210 hp, 7500rpm redline). To get the most out of the RX-8, you have to be willing to rev the snot out of it.
Having an Altima with a less powerful version of the G35s V6, I can run a 16 flat 1/4 shifting at 4500rpm. There are few cars with less than 400hp that can match the top gear acceleration from 30-50mph (which is from 900-1500rpm). And it gets 26-28mpg on the freeway. I did think that the Mazda6 rode and handled better, though.:) |
manual transmission for sure.
promised myself never to buy an auto car unless i lose a leg or something. |
