the other joe

Greetings everyone, I see I have already aquired the tag of the "other" joe. I guess I would be the newcomer to the Maine crew. I just bought a 95 Protege 5 speed. Body has 223,000 miles on it but the engine/drivetrain has a little over 70k. First Mazda I have owned and I must admit, I'm sold. I love the car. And regardless of what Ian say's, my car would smoke his!!

Welcome, Joe. Since you guys live practically in the same town, I am sure we will be hearing a lot about you two racing. Hopefully, sometimes soon we all would be able to meet somewhere in Maine, so we all can race one another.

Well, I should probably ask this or I won't have any clue, but how do you flush the tranny? Is there a cap on the bottom of the transmission like the oil? And where do you refill the tranny fluid once you flush it?

Another thing I was wondering is what you guys are paying for custom exhausts? All I want is a 2" pipe and a nice sport muffler for a little bit more tone and some better airflow, I don't want anything bigger cuz I don't want my car to sound like a cracked out bumblebee
There is a drain plug for tranny fluid, but I would rahter get it done professionaly, because they have machines that suck all the tranny fluid from the transmission, along with all the dirt or debry that might have accumulated over time. Also, depending on where you go, you should not pay more then $50 for a tranny flush. If you drain and refill, it might help a little, though I am not sure. As for custom exhaust, you can get a high flow muffler on Ebay for about $50+, and for the catback pipes you need to visit a muffler shop that does them, and ask them how much would it cost to make the pipes (if you can put it on yourself). If you want a shop to install it all for you, it will run you about $150+.

Speaking of rims, does anyone have a good connection on a set of 15" gold or polished aluminum rims? I can't do eBay because my ex-gf decided not to pay for any of the stuff so I got banned . So if anyone can find a set I can spend about $350-450 w/o tires. The car would look much nicer, not that it doesn't now, but rims would add a nice effect to the car.

I think we are getting off the ground pretty good right now. With 11 people and growing we should have a good meet in the spring within our own club, let alone joining with CT people. I will be updating the website this weekend, so those of you who do not have on the website, get them to me, thanks.

I need to hurry and get a digicam so I can take a pic of my car. It looks like sh*t right now because of the salt and calcium on the roads, bad thing about having black cars. But I think we're getting off to a good start, at least we have double digit people. I would like to get some kind of emblem, I don't really like the big stickers, but something small would be nice to represent a little bit :-) You know, since there's so many Mainers who get into Mazdas and all. It would be nice to get a pic of everyone's car together to see all the different generation and year changes.
