No, the Mazda3 is on the chassis of the current european ford focus. I don't know if there is any relation at all to the old-school focus chassis.

here's some chassis info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_C1_Platform

It was loosely based on the old focus chassis and the BJ (i.e. my car) chassis... it was a compromise for ford, volvo, and mazda.

somehow I doubt they'll fit :P

Yeah, I think it's the late 80's/early 90's Escorts and 1st get Proteges you may be thinking about. IIRC, There aren't any mazda/fords left except the trucks.

was speaking just of the current ones.. if we include mx-6/probe, can't forget the ford laser (protege5 variant in I think australia and other places), ford lynx rs (basically a Protege MP3 but with a radically different front end, a friggin sweet-looking car).. there's a ton

I don't even know if they use the same suspension type. Was the Focus McPherson front and rear?

definitely will NOT fit.....Focus and 3/Protege share almost NO parts..The only interchangeable parts between a Focus and Protege or 3 is the shifter....
