Are the Mazda3 engines and related parts the same as those used on the Mazda5?

I ask since I think the alternator in my Mazda5 is dead - the local garage has parts for Mazda3 but is unfamiliar with the 5.

I have an 06 Mazda5 - engine is 2.3L....

Any insight or thoughts would be useful.

nope, different parts... crazy mazda, they should be the same - must be due to the engine mounting location or something.
