Question engine light after mod.

Last night I bought a mass air flow adapter to remove the stock air box on my 08 speed3. The car fired right up. There was a huge performance increase until I got in 3rd gear and really got into boost. THe car became very bucky and jerky and then smoothed out. The gain in hp was incredible it went from no wheel spin in 1st and 2nd to after the mod completely overwhelming traction control and smokeing the tires. Then the engine light came on. I checked the code and it says system to lean at idle. I reset the light and it went back to being jerky again. I used the spectre MAF adapter part number 8705. I cant see why changing the filter would cause an engine light. I hate taking it off because the sounds this thing makes now are awesome. I cannot believe how much a difference it made from the hiney dyno probably around 30hp. Do you guys have any ideas how to keep the light out?

Try buying some mass air flow sensor cleaner from the auto parts store. spray the sensor and clean it off. alot of times on new high flow air filters it suck the oil off the filter and dirt gets stuck to it. then reset the computer. let me know if that fixes it.

Disconnect your battery for a few minutes, then hook it back up. Not so much to reset the code but to reset the car and let it recalibrate to the new intake. It didn't work on my 6 I had, but it's worth a shot.

Smile

i just wanted to let you guys know that i fixed the problem with bringin my filter away from the mass air flow i used the spectre 8705 maf adapter along with a 60 elbow and a 6 inch staight piece of intake tubing i instantly noticed the car smoothed up and no high boost\high rpm bucking like before. i cleared the light 40 miles ago andit hast come back on. when i cleared it before it immediatly came back on. so hopefuly it is fixed. it saved me 350 bucks to make my own intake. and it doesnt look that bad either.
