My 2007 Mazda 3 had power steering failed yesterday. I looked up recall info and there was a recall for it but not for my car. The Mazda people say that different equipment was used in my car and it has not be recalled. It's a HUGE coincidence to believe that my power steering isn't covered under the recall.

Has anyone else had this happen? What could have cause the PSF?

and when did it fail - during driving, turning, parallel parking with the wheel at lock etc...

If its not actually the power steering unit, if your vehicle speed goes away, or the engine stalls this will kill the power steering too, surely there are other causes too. I've induced the failure by shutting off the engine out of curiosity, and it restarts when you try to turn as long as everything else is turned back on.
