I just purchased a 2004 3 and am looking to change to stock system in it. It sounds pretty bad. anybody have any suggestions???

 

Welcome to the club---you would probably get better response posting in the audio section.

 

I switched out the crappy paper cone door speakers to 6X8 Infinity's ... (as detailed in another thread) ... and also added an 8" powered bazooka sub in the trunk ... (another thread) ... and the sound is pretty sweet now ... crisp clean mids/highs ... and a serious enuff thump to turn heads. far better than the stock garbage system that mazda had in it.

.... and it only cost me about $150 (ebay buys) and about 3 hours time.

Word up.
