Question Mazda 3 sedan 2008 change oem stereo

Hi,

A week long owner of my first Mazda 3 and very excited about it!! (I used to have an old 1997 Pontiac Sunfire, 4door, automatic).

I read other posts about removal of the oem stereo that came with some mazdas but mostly protege models and models before 2007.

Just wondering if there is a website or link that can help me remove my OEM stereo that does not play mp3 and replace it with another sound system, potentially with support for DVD player (my 10yr kid is beggin' for it).

I have a mazda 3, sedan, 4 door, 2.0L, full extras, leather, automatic, year 2008.

At first i only want to remove the oem stereo and put something that can play mp3 and maybe a usb or aux port for removable audio devices and put it in the same "area" of the oem stereo, i love the dashboard and dont want to damage it by drilling holes and such.

Second, it will be nice to know if someone here had the experience of installing a dvd player in this model.

im looking at crutchfield.com for options so any comments are welcomed!

Thanks all for your kind help.

Note to audio lovers: Im a regular audio listener, so no need for bazooka bass systems and the like
Erick.

check inside your center console armrest area.i have an 07' but there is an "aux" jack there.don't know if it's standard on an 08,but mine is a bare,no options except wheel locks model, and it has the aux port in the center console by the other aux 12 volt jack.good luck.an dif you need to change the radio, you must be mechanically inclined.i bought the pioneer touch screen dvd player and it was harder to remove the old radio than to install the whole system.i can talk you thru it,but trust me,it's not for the novice, good luck!

OEM Stereo Replacement

Hey all,

I have a question along the same subject of the OP, but with a little twist. I currently own a 2008 mazda3i that came with the non-6 disc, but mp3 capable head unit. Is it possible to swap this deck out for the OEM Bose unit? I've found a website where you can purchase OEM Mazda3 parts and they offer that unit. I would also be interested in seeing if this is possible, if it will also unlock a fully functional trip computer on the mazda3i... Any thoughts on that?

No you can't just use the Bose HU in a non-bose car. The HU is different in addition to the speakers, and of course the amp. and sub. If you're looking for better sound just drop a little money into some better component speakers for the front and if you feel the need an amp to drive them.

If you want to get the DIS working on your '08.5 then you can replace the HU and specifically get the one that has it....... in '06-'07 all of them had it, however in '08+ models they separated it by p/n. I think you can order a single CD/Mp3 HU with it, but I know you can get a 6CD/Mp3.... and really if you're spending the money why not get the changer?

Thanks for the info, definitely good to know. I will most likely end up installing a Kenwood HU and Infinity Kappa speakers. I loved the Kenwood deck I had in my truck.

here's an idea for you, i just dropped this into my sedan like a week after i got it!

Head unit: Pioneer AVIC-F700BT $850 from Best Buy... its F'in awesome
this thing does EVERYTHING except play DVD's... which I dont really care about.

Door Speakers: Infinity Kappa 6x8's $180 per pair from Best Buy... SWEET!!!!
I had the Alpine 6x8's that they sell, but I blew 3 pairs and made them let me exchange them!

Amps: Alpine M1000 Mono block (1000W) for the subwoofers $399 from Best Buy.
Alpine F300 $200 from Best Buy for the Door speakers. both are INCREDIBLE!

Subs: Alpine Type E 12's... great if you arent going for real SPL type numbers. these were cheap.

Not a bad setup! That HU is a little heafty on the wallet for me right now and the RMS output is a bit underpowered compared to the Kenwood HU's I've owned/looked at on Crutchfield. I'll keep it on the wish list though. I never knew those Infinities were so cheap compared to Crutchfields prices, although they are always more expensive. I'll have to see if they have them in stock at my BestBuy.

How was the speaker fit? Did you need to make any modifications to the door? I saw a walk-thru somewhere where a guy had to grind down a lip to get his Infinities to fit properly.

Where did you mount your amps? Under the front seats?

Thanks for the info. too!

I put in a Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD, Kenwood 6x8's, 2 Kicker Comp 10's and an MTX Terminator 250/1 Class D Mono Block amp and those subs hit HARD. The dvd player is sweet, with the exception of only having 2 sets or preouts. However it does have a USB cable built into the back of it, with an AUX jack in the front. You can add damn near anything you want to it as well.
