Custom Automatic

Are there ways you can improve the performance of an automatic mazda 3? It has the sport's automatic, but it still is slow shifting... Is it possible to turbo an automatic? My friend said you have to reprogram the ECU or something... N e way, any help would be appreciated

I live in san diego for 1, and there is lots of traffic, and 2 my parents wouldn't let me... but I love the car, and would still like to do some custom stuff if possible and maybe even a turbo...

turbo kits are specific to the car, right? I'm pretty sure one for the mzd3 is coming out soon, but I don't think it is a twin turbo kit.

its defently not going to be a twin turbos, that was a joke But I want to know how the turbo is going to relate the VIS system, the 2.3 is tuned for peek NA power, slapping a turbo on without taking the steps to bypass the VIS might work against you. For example, the S5 turbo IIs don't have the vis (its wasn't called vis back in the day, but for simplicity sake we'll call it that) and I'm pretty sure FD's didnt have it either. Now the 2.0l i engine might not have the VIS, so tuning it for a turbo might be easier. ...in my humble opinion

I dont get it... why dont your parents want you to get a manual car?

If they have issues with getting you that, they probably have issues with any type of speed enhancer for the car.

Mainly because when my mom drives she doesn't want to drive a manual. I am like the only one who drives it, but they are just weird like that. Plus it is nice to have an automatic when you are in traffic, and since I live in San Diego, it is way trafficy sometimes...lol. Also, is it possible to improve the tiptronic shifting system?

um, I'm not buying that san diego varible bud, I live in DC, the nations capital. Its constant congestion, and everyone drives like a ******* retard. There have to be some open roads you can open up on.... yes you can improve the tiptronic, I'd wait to see if haltech is going to support the mazda3, but if you look hard enough you should find ways to reprogram your ecu, but I agree, hold of on force induction until the ms 3 comes out

look you could put an exhaut you could put a cold air intake and yes you could put the turbo when it comes out or custom make it and yes it is going to work. but now just do the intake and the exhaut with a nice muffler it would give ou all like 20 to 30 hp i think that would be enough for now i think

the hiboost turbo for the 3 is scheduled to come out in less than a month iirc. it will be available for auto and manual. although they dont recommend using the full boost on the autos.

San Diego traffic does suck. The 5 can become a parking lot for 30 or so miles in the perfect storm of 5 o'clock rush mixed in with a few poorly planned events. We are talking about a city daft enough to build a baseball field in an already congested downtown. Combine that with a unionized road crew who only work during banker's hours and only actually work for half of those hours and you almost wish we had better public transportation (well, that is if you could get over the ripe stench of old people and bum mixed on a palet of vomit and human feces.)

I was big on manuals, and had one for 8 years. It was a chore getting to and from work and while I miss it (and tip is a poor substitute), I still am quite pleased that I got the auto. With a few mods the lost .4 seconds will hardly matter as I don't race.
