2008 Mazda3 Hatch Full Size Spare?
Hey Everyone,
My wife had a blowout last week (everyone's fine) and had to drive home (~200km) on the donut. I put one of my winters on until I get the replacement but it got me thinking that I should put have one of my winters as spare all the time.
However, after looking at the space there doesn't seem to be enough room. The problem in the plastic tray that sits on top of the spare tire. It is about 3" deep.
Is there a alternative tray that can be bought that will allow the cover(carpet on one side, plastic on the other) to be stable but allow a full size spare? Or will I have to make my own mod?
Thanks
J.O.

I looked at how much wider the stock tires are compared to the spare, and it's a few inches... more than that tray thickness. Hm, but you say 3" deep - you must have the hatch version that has a handy storage bin there... wish my 4 door had that.
You can melt / cut the area out to get some extra space, though I think you'll still be higher than the rest of the floor. Way back i'd looked into it, and it doesn't seem that the bottom side can be moved since the rear subframe is right there...
So live with an uneven floor - or some kind of your own mod, like a 4-5" deep tray with the tire in the middle. Good luck.
