Wheel Hop

HEY HOW DO I GET MY WHEELS TO STAY DOWN?
I GET ABOUT 3000-4000 RPMS THEN DUMP THE CLUTCH 1ST REDS AT 6500 HIT 2ND NEVER LETTING OFF OF GAS, 2ND REDS AT 6500 HIT 3RD NEVER LETTING OFF OF GAS, STAY IN 3RD FOR THE 1/4 MILE. BUT THE WHEEL HOP KILLS ME AND THE CAR!!!:D

Drop the tire pressure..it helps eliminate some hop. I run 26-28PSI at the track. My 60ft's are in the low 2.4 range consistently with a 3250 drop.

HEY I RUN NITTO NT 555/ EXTREME ZR 205/45/ZR16
WHEN I DROP TIRE PRESSURE IT GETS WORSE (25LBS)
SO I RUN ABOUT 30 TO 35 IT HELPS A LITTLE.
I WAS TOLD THE PRO5 HAS THE WORSE SUSPENSION ON IT.
DO I NEED TO GET NEW COILS OR WHAT?

Look to install the MSP #3 engine mount, should help a bit.

Droppin the tire pressure on the street tires will help enormously. Drag radials will only exaggerate the wheel hop problem... for that reason, I haven't added drag radials. At least not until I get the mounts installed.

Had to double check....so you have the "street 555?" Dropping the tire presure should help the tire absorb more shock..so it's odd that your getting more hop.

It's not so much a problem with the suspension as it is with weak mounts. I had the same problem in my 94 Protege.

Motor mounts are the key to getting the wheel hop to stop.
You can also try to load up your rear suspension- raise the ride height if possible.
You can also disconnect the front sway bar- that may help, and since you are just drag racing it probably won't hurt.

Try to avoid wheel hop as much as possible- it WILL KILL YOUR TRANNY! You may want to try a lower RPMS on your launch or higher RPMS to get some wheel spin.

fill your motor mounts with window weld will help. also, dont dump your #$%@in clutch, "feather" it if your drag racing. i usually run ~26psi on my tires when i drag. and are you sure you have wheel hop? or are you just spinning your tires cause your dumping your clutch?

As people have pointed out...Get your motor mounts changed..I am in the middle of getting them done...They help out allot!!

Or you can use the old window weld trick..to fill them up...

Or you can get an Limited Slip Diff..

They will all work..or just do like i have been doing....

DON'T DUMP THE CLUTCH....FEATHER IT IN!!

Or feather it in..and than dump!!

Chas:D

Hmm, they need to update their website.
I looked yesterday and couldn't find one.

as stated before, don't dump the clutch. Learn to launch your car right and you won't get wheel hop.

If you learn to feather properly, you could keep your engine's rpms at peak powerband while you launch. Granted, your cluch doesn't like this sort of thing but it will get the best results.

If you get a g-force calculator you will see that you will achieve a higher g-force throughout the launch than if you start spinning your tires.

The idea behind dumping the cluch and having wheelspin was to keep rpms high for power. . . which is correct.

It is better, however, to keep the tires on the edge of traction and slip while keeping rpms high. . . feathering.

try it! i bet your quarter mile time gets better. maybe not at first, but when you get good at it... it will get alot better.
