Question Mazda6 S uses Ford's corporate 3.0-liter V-6 with 220 horsepower?

Does anyone have any info on this particular engine? I did a search and found that this engine has been around for some time ('86 Taurus)?...is it the same Duratec engine that has been tweeked?

Yeah, from what I've read, it's using the Duratec block but that's pretty much it. Mazda's done a lot of work to the motor.

Talking

*Whew* thank God! I heard so many crappy things about that engine (Vulcan I think). Afer doing some more research, I realized the 3.0 only put out 155 Hp ATW. .

Similar thing with the Jag X Type. Which uses this and puts out 235.

Yep. Sounds like a I/H/E combo could yield some nice gains.

The X Type also has 219 torque. I'd die to have at least that much torque teamed with a 220HP or so motor.

The original 2.5 duratech block was designed by porsche, Ford basically gave them a blank check to develop a new engine for the next generation of cars. The 2.5 that porsche developed was a bit big so Ford shrunk it a bit. This explains some of the oil starvation and crank whip issues that the first gen duratechs (contours) experienced. in 96 or so the duratech was upgraded to 3.0 and was in the taurus and later in the x type, Lincoln LS etc. They also added two extra cylinders (and a lot of other stuff) to make the 3.4 v8 that was in the last SHO. The duratech is a good engine and after working through the design flaws of the first gen is really comign out a very technically advanced engine. The 6 has the duratech block but has mazda stuff otherwise. So would one consider it a duratech? The 2.3 is also a duratech design (i think anyway) and will later be seen in the 3 and the focus

I think the 2.3I4 is a newly designed engine entirely by Mazda part of the new MZR line of engines.

In Asia, the Mazda6 comes with a 2.0I4 MZR engine. It puts out 150hp.

Would this engine somehow make its way into North American Mazda6, 3?

And does anyone know the base engine of the new Mazda3?
