turbo/sc questions

I have a 1999 automatic protege es and before I buy any turbo/sc I want to know if it is really worth doing to aa automatic.(especially mine)
I was looking at the turbo kit with the intercooler at www.turbo-kits.com
Any advice or thoughts are welcome
Thanks

First dont buy anything off turbo-kits.com I know of at least one guy that has there kit and he had a really tough time trying to get it to fit alot of fabrication had to be done to just get the kit to fit.
There are plenty of other options for your 1.8l. I think the turbo parts for the 2.0 will fit so you can get a decent kit.

The auto is fine to turbo just be sure to install a tranny cooler $99 it will greatly increasse the life of your tranny. The stock auto tranny since is fine to something like 250ft/lbs (there are a few guys running that much on there pros). I dont know if anyone has really pushed it though.

The main problem I would have with turboing an auto is that you really dont have alot of control as to what its going to do so with that much power a trany that loves to shift might be annoying.

/\ what he said.

guys, a 99ES is not the same gearbox as an 01+...they aren't as tough..if you do anything get a S/C kit, so that the power doesnt hit the gearbox suddenly like a turbo does...WOMP anyone?

i was unaware of the tranny variation. good info.

Thank you everyone!
Can anyone tell me where I can get a s/c that will be a "bolt on" kit for my protege? And will I be able to keep my ac?

You can contact companies that "build" auto trannies to make them tougher...check out matty's WOMP thread..should fit your Pro no problem.

Sorry mac the auto trannys are the same. :dunce:
Your thinkin about the the manual gearbox.
The only diffrence could be that the 01+ can be in auto-stick/tiptronic(its just a software trick; im working on it ;) ).
The part numbers are the same for all the 3rd gen auto's as well as the 3's.
FN4A-EL is the only auto tranny made for us, and the 3's, its even used in japan.

So its fine to turbo or supercharge my auto. Now the question is what to do? I have only seen 1 turbo kit for my car, and I have yet to see a supercharger kit. Could anyone tell me where I can find either of these things?
Thanks alot

The 1.8 can use 2.0 parts! Look up 2.0 parts. :yell:
There is a plethora of turbo kits out for your car. I have heard that hiboost makes a very good product putting down around 210hp. Do a search to find the rest ( i dont really follow non 1.6l parts that much :boink: ).
The only s/c kit avalible is rods, be sure to check out the womp supercharger thread. There are no other mass produced s/c kits made. You would have to take out your ac, your call on that. :dunno:

Roddimus Prime December-2nd-2004 11:23 PM

yeah, My supercharger kit requires the AC to come out so if that is not an option for you you should look into turbo's. It would be nice though to have a 1.8L car with a supercharger to test it out. Probably make a little more power than the 2.0Ls since it revs so much smoother.

Thanks, can any one post sites or places I can get a turbo kit for my car? I can only find the tsi kit that they sell at turbo-kits.com, and someone said that I shouldn't order anything from there.

www.hiboost.com
