how much boost can the bpt handle stock?
I've heard differant things, like 12lbs of boost 8lbs and so on. But i would drive the car every day and i would want it to run safely i get on the car every once in a while maybe once a day or so but how much boost should i run on a stock bpt and about how much hp would that give me thanx for the info

Braden got ~325hp pushing 30psi through a GTR turbo on a stock BPT....with it tuned correctly, i'm gonna guess 12-15psi would easily be a reliable daily driver.

all forced inductions questions go in forced induction/nitrous

what protojay said. the bpt engines are a lot stronger than most people thing, adam at escortracing.com was pusing 25psi on stock internal making 325hp.

The big question I have is what is going to be running the engine? If it's the pro LX ECU, I wouldn't run more than 10psi. If it's the GTX ECU, you can go higher yet. Braden got those high hp #s with a haltech full engine management... It's all about tuning.
Good engine + shitty tuning = you're screwed Good engine + good tuning = lotsa power, reliability |
Same question on a turboed BP. Any difference?

On a turbo stock lx motor he means

I had the connecting rod of the lx engine (dohc n/a) and the connecting rod of the gtx dohc turbo and they are really not the same thing, the gtx rod are way bigger then the one of the lx but the lx engine also is suppose to handle well boost, but i wouldn't go has hight on boost as on a gtx engine that's why i bought my gtx and also cause my lx engine had 230 000km and took more oil then gas

thanx guys

If i did the BPT swap, id just run the LX ecu until i found a BPT ecu not to expensive. The engine would run safely at 6-8lbs boost. Might not run full out power, but you wouldnt blow the turbo. But i think takin a BP and turboing it would be more efficient, bc you can get it as fast as the GTR (rare not GTX) motor. or so ive heard.....

I'm not sure how 'strong' the miata internals are, but I know they have slightly higher compression than the stock pistons. I think the '99+ piston's are 9.5:1... Not sure what the stock BP is, I think around 9:1???
There are plenty of turbo miata guys not having any problems with internals, so I'd assume you'd be safe. |
