I knew I was wrong somewhere. Just came back from an Import Car Show last night & saw at least 5 JDM Skyline's & 2 real JDM Silvia's. Damn I need a turbo the size of my head.... 2 of them! :D Hmm, I'm starting to rethink the FSDE engine as being just an econo engine. I can imagine half bar would be pretty safe with our engines, even a full bar as long it's tuned properly. Now, the question that begs to be answered, turbo a 1 mth old car with 3400 kms on it already or wait. I knew I shouldn't have blown $4000 on that new stereo. *sigh*.

The $2950 price tag includes everything. I spoke with Corky a couple weeks ago and that price is good for the first ten kits regardless of what the parts cost is. The price may well go up after the initial ten kits if they need to use additional fuel management. They won't increase the price on the first ones out no matter what they have to do to get them to work right. He can't see the kit going over $3500 even if they do have to add things that they didn't originally think they'd need.

when i talked to him last week, there were 3 systems pre-ordered out the the 10 promised at this price. the system is complete and is in testing and performing quite well from what i was told.

when i talked to him and asked for the photos, it took a couple of days. the way i look at it, would i rather them be off building kick-ass turbo systems or sitting by the 'puter emailing all day. i'm sure you'll get a reply....

Where is the intercooler on your prototype? I am damn curious. And on top of that, how hard are these things (in general) to install?

Yeah, I'd like to know where the intercooler is as well. In response to arl240, turbo kits usually aren't too hard to install if you have a pretty good understanding of cars & some tools. The manifold, turbo & downpipe is pretty much drop in. Sometimes the plumbing for the intercooler, etc, can be a little challenging depending on the vehicle. Then, it's a matter of drilling into the oil pan for the oil feed to the turbo, routing some tubes, hoses for the fuel pressure regulator. Pretty much, the only other challenge would be if there is a piggy back ecu involved or ignition retard unit (eg. MSD) where you may have to splice some wires. On Miata's, most people would have it done in a weekend as long as all the parts are there & everything is prepared well. I can't imagine the P5 being much harder.

Running just shy of 8 psi. Pulls really hard from about 2500 to the redline. Intercooler sits vertical on the left side in the upper grill in front of the a/c condensor for now (dont worry, no cooling problems, and its 95-100 degrees here daily). We wanted it hidden. I plan to install a larger one in the lower grill in the near future which will sit horizontal. Corky did the entire install since my car was his prototype but in looking at the instructions and the kit itself its straight forward. If I had to rate the difficulty, its moderate.

Yeah, I remember people saying that the hardest part is drilling into the oil pan. I think I'd rather just take the whole oil pan off, less risk, doesn't add that much more time. I was actually pretty close to getting the Greddy turbo for my miata last summer but it's been modified as an NA car already which means higher compression & different port & polish in the head.

Have U driven a GTI before? Does the turbo spool pretty quick like the GTI or is there quite a bit of lag like a WRX? Any dyno numbers? Do your tires break loose in 2nd when the boost starts building? Is there any electronics involved, ie. ignition retard or is it just the turbo & fuel pressure regulator? BTW, thanx for chiming in & letting us all know what's going on with the BEGI kit. I'm surprised you haven't been totally bombarded with questions yet so I thought I'd start :p . Thanx again!

I spools up fairly quickly. This is my first turbo car so I really don't have another experience to compare it to. No dyno numbers yet. I have only had the car back for a few weeks. I am not running the kind of HP Richard is (90&00 Protege). Corky is projecting 210-220 HP w/ 8psi (slightly higher on MP3). The tires will not break loose in 2nd w/ the clutch fully engaged (wow!) but with a little encouragement you can manage it. During testing the clutch did let loose a few times prior to full operating temp. No electronics at this time. 8 psi is the max with just the FPR. No knocks, pings or burps all the way to redline during 95-100 degree days, pleanty of fuel. Exhaust coming off in the next few weeks for coating. I will post more photos when the parts return. There is a oil return with this kit and it is also water cooled.

How is the throttle response before the turbo spools up. Does it feel like it has less power than before under 2500rpm? Just wondering how different it is down low, because I do a lot of commuting.

Do you find you have to back off the throttle when it hits, in normal driving mode. In other words, is the transition to full boost like a switch or more spread out.

The only other turbo I drove was the 02 GTI 1.8T and found it to have too soft of a throttle response before the turbo spooled, always tried to give it too much gas just to start off moving normally (not in racing mode) and then whaam, tires breaking loose etc. Kind of embarassing doing that at every stoplight :)

BTW, do you have an auto or a stick?

Cool, thanx for the good info man! I also noticed the coolant line going in to the turbo. Should make for a good, long life for the turbo. I'm assuming it is a ball bearing turbo, right? I'm curious as to what will be available in the way of upgrades for this kit later on. Injectors, fuel pump, piggyback ecu FMI, etc. I just swapped out my factory deck for a single din deck & the empty space is just crying for some guages.
