another FI question

hey I have a question. If it would be safe to turbo my car and keep the boost around 4-5 psi for only about a 40-50 hp gain in my LX, would it be just as safe to put my car on nitrous (dry) for a gain of only 40-50 hp and a lot cheaper? Pardon my stupidity but Im curious! Would it be a bad idea? potential problems?

scotty878 February-24th-2006 11:42 PM

I think for only 4-5 PSI, it would be kinda useless...The MSP came stock with something like 7.5 PSI, so it can safely handle that, so I say, get a kit if you want a little more power and will run it at around 7, anything under 5 seems like kind of a waste of money IMO

Buck February-25th-2006 12:48 AM

yeah but I have an automatic and I have over 60000 miles on the car...

Buck February-25th-2006 12:48 AM

thats what the concern is about My engine is pretty worn in turbo years :)

macdaddyslomo February-25th-2006 01:45 AM

it's still fine...I'm turbo'ing mine with almost 90,000 on it

Buck February-25th-2006 12:33 PM

good to know. MAM is going to be offering a low budgett turbo setup costing around 1600-1800 dollars. I may look into this

Roddimus Prime February-25th-2006 03:11 PM

the reason it's so low in price is because it's not complete...it's a neat little way to sucker people into buying product and then forcing them to spend more to complete it.

buyer beware

That budget kit has zero in the way of fuel management, and no intercooler either...it's basically just a manifold, turbo, and downpipe, with all the fittings for the oil and water lines, and I think charge piping to run it non intercooled....

Roddimus Prime February-25th-2006 09:26 PM

i find it real funny he's offering an incomplete kit for almost $2K and then has a line in his sig with something to the effect of "don't buy cheap stuff, you get what you pay for."...

"I'm beset by the ironies of my life."

Buck February-25th-2006 09:39 PM

I rememeber hearing it was non intercooled, but being a low psi setup does it have to be?

Buck February-25th-2006 09:41 PM

Question Matty, Is your Womp setup going to be a fully complete setup with fuel management and all? and what are you going to charge? just curious

macdaddyslomo February-25th-2006 11:50 PM

if you source out all your stuff yourself it will be cheaper than the mam kit....the full kit is better if you want higher horsepower levels, but on a stock auto I wouldnt recommend it anyways...just make sure you have proper fuel management

Roddimus Prime February-26th-2006 12:04 AM

my system is complete....anyone selling partial FI should be shot. It's just asking for customers to break stuff.

I'm expecting $2999 for everything and it'll make a ton more power than the non-intercooled low boost system he's offering.

My first dyno made 160whp on 4.5psi with no intercooler but less torque. I believe his lowboost kit makes about 160whp without an intercooler also but will make more torque and require you to piece together other essential pieces.

I don't wanna push my product prematurely but I'm willing to wager my system will be the best selling mod for automatic owners....it'll produce plenty of horsepower but little torque. That's what automatic owners need.

I am interested for sure. I would rather go the supercharger route anyways it seems like it is a cleaner setup. I look forward to seeing what u come up with in the final product.

Roddimus Prime February-28th-2006 09:33 PM

oh man....you'll love it...this new stuff is going to blow everyone else away in the "clean" department.
