Adv. NOS Q's
I have a 2002 Protege ES 2.0l Automatic. I have a few questions for you NOS guru's out there. BTW, I live in Canada. Calgary.
1.) Will a wet Nos setup work with my auto?
2.) What shot size would I need to net a reasonably safe gain in horse power, lets say an additional 20hp (150hp)?
3.) How safe would it to be use a NOS setup in my car. It's my daily driver, so reliability is really important to me. If I have a wet Nos setup with a 20hp gain, can I expect my car to last me 10 years? And I am also wondering if Nos is high meitanance in our cars. I understand you have to get new bottles every now and then, but mainly I am wondering about the reliability of it in my car.
4.) I am not very sure how a Nos system operates in a car, so if someone could explain it to me, I would really appreciate it. I mean I know the basics of Nos function, but I mean the operation of it. When are you supposed to trigger the injection sequence and is there a pre set spray duration or is it all controlled by you? Why do you spray at different times, and what are the optimum RPM and gear that you should spray for the best and safest performance. From what i can tell, all you do is hit the button and the car just shoots, but what I don't understand is what would happen if you sprayed as the car was switching gears or something. Also, since my car is an automatic, I am wondering how the transmission would react to a Nos injection. While I'm on that note, I'm wondering how the ECU might react to the Nos in the engine.
5.) Is there anything I can do for the engine to boost it's structural integrity to increase the longetivity of the engine? (since it would be using Nos)
6.) With a Nos system installed, can I still use the car as my daily driver? And another thing, as I understand it: It is legal to purchase Nos, but it is illegal to use in this type of application right? (Not that it matters to me, I'm just wondering.)
7.) Using Nos for a reasonable horse power gain (20hp), about how many times would I be able to use the Nos on one bottle? Lets say the spray duration is a set ammount for a reasonable kick, I'll let you guys estimate that, my knowlege of Nos systems is really limited. (Lets say a 10lb. bottle.)
8.) What's a reasonable estimate of the costs involved in setting us a Nos system in my car, Canadian dollars please.
On a personal note to any Americans, I feel bad that Canada is not doing much to help you guys out in the war. But truthfully, I think I government is reluctant to help because of the state that our military is in. Frankly it's embarassing, and we have very little in the way of armed forces to contribute. But either way, I hope for a fast resolution to the war.
Well, thanks in advanced for any information you guys can provide.

1. yes, but i would go with nitrous express
2. you can do a 35 or 50 shot very safely
3. i have had n20 running for several monthes now, and had 0 probs. You should have no problems in the future if you are smart, and do everything right all the time.
4. its very easy- best thing to do w/ the auto tranny-
have it triggered w/ a wide open throttle switch and a rpm window switch.... you just floor it and at 3500 rpm it comes on and stays on as long as you keep it floored
5. tons... ask around
6.yes and i thiink its illegal to USE (not have)it on a public road
7.will last about 2 minites solid at a 50 shot( i think i forget the formula right now)
8.i have no idea on canadian currency, but my shop in texas wanted $250 U.S. to install, but i did it myself- it was pretty easy...
MSD? i dont remeber what it stands for, but its just a brand of ignition products that wont work on our cars
anything else, just let me know!

you'll have to realize 20 horses really isn't that much, the place most people have gotten into trouble is with DRY kits, and trying to use a 75 shot or more, our engines have a hard time managing that much.
And celticbass-
which system did you get, and where in the world did you get it for 250? all the systems i've looked at are 400 or more. or was that 250 if you wanted to get them to install it. I really want to put a kit in my car, and have read a hella lot about it, and would like to know what kit you are using, exact please, and how much you got it for, how long it took to install, and another info you think would be helpful. THANKS

it was 250 to install it..i paid 500 even for the kit and its 20923 IMPORT EFI SINGLE NOZZLE SYSTEM i put mine in myself, along w/ 3 other peoples cars... so it takes me about 2- 3 hours now... but you can do it in a day it you want... its really not that hard..
mount bottle
mount solinoids
mount nozzle in intake
run lines
wire it up
the directions that come with the kit will tell you every thing you need to know

I suggest that if you have an auto tranny..to get tranny cooler!!
Also..Get ngk spark plugs..atleast 1 step colder!!
I have mine set to a 50 shot....and it feels sweet...w/ any lower shot..you will really not feel it!!
I am doing a group buy for these kits...and for other parts please check out my thread...
