too big and too small sub enclosures?

will anything bad happen if your enclosure is too big? or too small?

the box is between 1.6?FT and 1.7?FT and on the clarion spec sheet optimum size is 0.73?FT?2 = 1.52?FT

will ~0.13?FT make a diffrence?

also remember that the woofers themselves take up some space, i'm assuming you have x2 10" subs, so figure. (an estimated) 0.069 each, for 0.138 combined, take that away from the 1.65 box, and you get 1.512. Pretty close huh!

and yes, it makes all the difference in the world to have the woofer matched to the enclosure, from an audiophile POV.

General accepted box range is + or - 10% of the recommended volume. So you should be fine.

Just don't go TOO small - I have a single 10" that, after driver displacement, is in about .4 (maybe less) cu/ft of sealed airspace. It's just plain too small.

Even though my 10" RF Punch HX2 can be used down to .2 sealed (according to the spec sheet), I'm not getting the output I want (or that I should have, considering it's getting 500 watts RMS). I'm going to be building a bigger box as soon as I get my hands on some fiberglassing materials.

But + or - 10% volume will make an inaudible differnece, if any at all.

a difference of .065 cu ft per sub is an inaudible difference. we are not talking about 1/4 cu ft. 2 hz lower will not make any difference in normal listening. for competition purposes, yes, 2 hz will make a difference. and mazdaspeedwest, if you are going into how much of a difference .065 cu ft will make, why not go into how much of a difference adding fill will make. it is a sealed box, and in my experience, you need the polyfill so the back wave does not add negative force to the speaker. properly mating subs and boxes is very crucial for comp use, but for and average listener, .065 is totally unnoticable. and most spec sheets give the volume needed with the subs volume added, cause most people couldn't figure out how much volume the sub takes up. when actually designing a box other than factory recommended volume, you must add the vol of the sub. and some brands give the volume of their subs, take Cerwin Vega Strokers. their manual has all the info to design a box other than factory specs. but most listeners will never need to know information like this. so no, .065 will not make a difference in a sealed box in a non competition vehicle, IMO. comming from someone who designs and builds new boxes in my spare time (i'm working on an 8th order band pass currently)
While all very true, i just pointing out that the box he had will match well with the woofers he has without going into too much detail :D

Maybe someday i'll get to hear some of your designs...
