Talking They're here!!

I got home after a party after work (I know a party on a Monday night, WTF?!) and low and behold were two boxes at my doorstep from EDesigns! It is too dark to install them plus I live in an apartment complex (gotta be careful), so I have to wait until tomorrow afternoon when I get home from work. They are different than expected. I was expecting a flat poly cone, but it has stiching throughout and the rubber surround looks much like the JL W6's. I can't wait to hear them. I got the limited gold plated connects along with the black basket, which is cool (which are no longer in production). The wait is going to be hard, but I gotta do it. The other thing too which is good, is that they don't come in, but a plain white box, so they don't have their names or flashy designs outside of the box to lure people's curiosity. That is good considering they were outside on my doorstep for a few hours at least! I'll let you know what I think of them! Got pics of every thing else too, yesterday, if only I could've included the subs in the sub box, but they just came in. No biggie though.

I am surprised in that you had ordered yours before me and yet you are still waiting. It's supposed to rain all afternoon. I hope there will be enough of a break to install these subs!

I just installed them and they hit really hard! It's hard to say whether or not they are better than the SoundStream SPL12s, but it is very close and too soon to tell. When going so long without bass, the first thing I did was pop in bass heavy CDs. I have a 3 CD set from Boston Acoustics. CD#1 is outrageous bass from various artists. CD#2 is more of sound quality bass that includes some jazz, CD#3 must suck because I never really listened to it ever. I must say though, they do hit really hard, maybe a little too hard! I have to try out different types of music from my CD collection. They are definitely louder than the SoundStreams, but as far as SQ goes, it is too early to tell. I am very satisfied with them though! By the weekend I will know more. I will say this though, I am VERY pleased with them and they are up there with the best of them. I am blown away by the price of them.
I thought I would never say this, but if I could do it all over again, I could have gone with 2 10's and got a **** load of bass, spent a little less money, and had more space in the trunk. There was a Protege in front of me today and I cranked it up so the woman would hear and feel what she could have in her car! This sounds juvenile, but I can't wait to pull up next to some one talking about grocery shopping or something pointless on their cell phone and just blast them out!!! I just won't advertise too much especially near my neighborhood. Don't want to attract the wrong kind of attention. I want to put their stickers on my car that they provided, but I got to be stealth. Thanks for all the help Rider and Blue Ledz. These subs are very much worth the price and more I just am curious on how many dB's these things are producing! They have to be putting out more than the SPL12's I had, and those were up there (I want to say in the upper 140's, but it was so long ago I don't remember). I was never one for dB, but with these subs, look out!

Hey, a couple of questions...

You guys using the vented, or the sealed box design? If it's vented, are you using the design they post on their site? Kind of a massive port...not really a ported box so much as it's an old-school transmission-line, but whatever.

Where did you order them from?

I'm curious if you're still satisfied with them after a couple of days...

I am love the SQ of these subs. Last night I drove around for about an hour popping in CDs from Dire Straits to Limp Bizkit. I have a wide variety of taste <except for country, yuck!> in cds. These things sound great! I have to adjust the bass so for the variety of types of music, but this has to be the best sound system ever. It rivals home stereo systems in sound quality. It blows home stereos in SPL if I really want it loud. On top of that, it makes a good back massager after a hard days work. I have my subs crossed over at 80Hz and they are in a sealed prefab box. Now I just need a new battery! The lights dim more so than they did before since I am using the DVC subs and my amp is switched to "high current" to handle the 1 or less ohm load.

Mister T

I emailed SoundDomain about the pages I created. They are not posted and I don't know why. Hopefully they will be up this afternoon. I'll keep you posted. Also, these do sound better and hit harder than my previous subs. The previous ones were $425 a pair, but they were a little old. I didn't think I would be able to get something as good as the SoundStream SPL12s for under $300 a pair. Boy was I wrong!

You ever tried them in the sealed configuration? I've always been a bigger fan of sealed boxes for two reasons...they tend to be more forgiving (and sound better in general), and they are usually way smaller than their ported cousins.

Mine are in a sealed box and they are very loud!! I wish I could have it measured for SPL just out of curiousity. They sound great in the sealed enclosure. I have always been a fan of sealed boxes myself. I like tight accurate bass especially from a fast beating bass drum.

I had my old K series for about 6 months, then sent it back to upgrade to newer version due to manufacturing problems with the old series. Just got my new one today and put it in my box and had to readjust everything. This woofer is damn nice. I think I might have to redo my box now though, I am not satisfied with the whole design. Blue, Up for a challenge when you come back to town? Anyway, will have some pics up later after it stops raining. I am quite pleased with this woofer!

Cool deal! Another satisfied customer. I just need a bigger battery since my amp is switched to "high current." I would like to see what these will do in one of Blue LEDZ's boxes. Maybe I can get him to build me one!

Well, I will be out of town that weekend. I have grown a little happier with it since i have been messing around a little more with xover freq and such (currently at 63Hz on the HU). Have to figure out which direction I am going to go before we design a new box though. I might reconsider and go two 10's, one in each back corner maybe.

Hey Blue, do you have any ideas on making my pair of 12's louder using around the same amount of trunk space as my box already? Something that will sound accurate like a sealed box, but the umph of a ported or bandpass.

Ya da masta of boxes daniel-son!!

By the way, did you make a box for a single ED sub yet for your friend? Just curious on how it sounds.
