SilverStar Bulbs
I got these SilverStar Halogen bulbs for my headlights. Has anyone heard of these or does anyone use them? They are the "whitest" kind. I wanted to get the blue but was debating whether or not to go bright white or blue. So any suggestions and opinions are much appreciated.
|
are you talking about the ones made by Sylvania ?
|
get the white bulbs, blues are TERRIBLE in the rain.
actually, white bulbs aren't too good in the rain either, stock halogens actually work the best. |
yea. the ones by sylvania why?
|
Silverstars
Bright as F@#$ Head lights I think I'LL be takin them out because everyone is flashing me thinking my hi-beams are on. A gold color light bulb is best for rain.
|
are they good bulbs tho. i mean i got them for x-mas and i really dont want to return them, yet i dont want to be putting shitty things on my car. im cool with bright. do they just look white or do they have a blueish tint to them?
|
Sylvania is a bigger company than most all of the blue bulb companies, so i'd guess quality is pretty decent. If you want the best, IMHO, then get some PIAA bulbs.
BTW, the blue bulbs are horrible in any condition. All they are are a gimmick look. |
I am basing the info I am giving here on the web site from Daniel Stern about blue bulbs (it's the only somewhat "factual" site I have seen on the topic).
From what I can remember the Sylvania line of "fake blue" is the "Cool Blue" line that they carry. Those bulbs have a sl;ight blue tint but still do put out a legal light output. and those are mostly crap and do not have blue tint anyways. The SilverStar bulbs, as billed by Sylvania/Osram, are a white high performance hallogen and not a blue light. It is one of the bulbs that is listed on Daniel's site as being an actual improvement in lighting and not a cheesy "for looks only" change. |
SilverStars are good bulbs. I have the Philips VisionPlus, which are the their competitors but same type of light output. They work real well.
|
princess, i say u keep ur silverstars, i've seen those on their site, n they look sweet as hell. i got the cool blues in mine, i'd rather have those silverstars though. also i dont think they're crappy b/c they're made by sylvania.
|
Yeah, keep those Silverstars...really nice, I juss got new bulbs for my P5 today...hehe cheap Eurolite Xenons, but Im juss lookin for something whiter, not brighter...add to the looks. How much are those Silverstars btw?
|
Um, well i got them for x-mas. But my mom said they were about 40 bucks. not too bad.

I would agree with NegatiZe
he told me about the phillips and I have since ordered+installed them and they are very good and bright the whites look cool, but they are good as nothing in rain or city driving because the color does not show rather the goldish makes a difference in the road and you could see what you are driving in if you want to add some looks, then add foglights check out the pics in my website and see for your self |

I ordered Phillips Vision Plus' from www.powerbulbs.com, costed 53$ total incl shipping, they have the silverstars as well, check it out. I'm in Canada btw.
|
I am using MTEC bulbs currently for my low beams. I have a pair for my fogs, but don't have them installed yet. Color temp says 4350k. Very close to PIAA PlasmaFX. I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!! The light is very white with a very light bluish tint similar to what you see in HID. Got them on Ebay for like $27 shipped. Just search for MTEC and your bulb #. You should find at least a half dozen at any time. Just a little info about something that's worked for me.

Has anyone tried Sylvania Halogen XtraVision? According to the site, they "provide three times more illumination". They also cost half as much as the SilverStar bulbs ($9.99 from AutoZone). Any comments? |

If these are as good as you state, and last halfway worth a shnitz, they are a steal at $24 shipped. Hope to get them this week.... we shall see. Much less than any PIAA bulbs I've used in the past (of which I have no complaints, other than price.) Any further insight? Still working as expected? Silverstars for P5
For the P5ers,
Have you found silverstars for all 3 sets in our cars? By this I mean 9005's, H7's and H3's? I want to make sure that the lights all match. If not silverstars, any comparable bulbs that would match. I checked powerbulbs.com but couldn't find all of them. Thanks, P5Ottawa |
if you have a 95-96 the free w5w's fit in the parking lights and match the osrams very closely, which gets rid of the ugly yellow light. they also fit the license plate, map, and curtosy lights on the doors, they have a replacement guide on sylvania, look it up
|
ok...sorry guys but I'm a newbie especially when it comes to posting things on here...but my deal is this...so, please bare with me...
low beam's are H7's high beams are 9005's I just bought some Sylvania Cool Blues 9005 for my high beams and I was going to get some SilverStars for my lows....but if my research is correct...Silverstars dont come in low beams...I can not find Silverstar H7's...am I correct? however... according to purewhitemp5...his post said that he wants to take out his Silverstars because they are to bright and everyone keeps flashing their brights at him because they think his brights are on....well, like I said earlier...if my research is correct...Silverstars aren't in low beams only in highs...therefore..his high beams must be on, no? |
My brother and I got Hella 100/80W for $15CAN each as a replacement for the stock Toyota 60/55W which were dim as crap. The lighting improvement is substantial and the wires are unaffected by the increased current flowing threw them.
I first considered getting the Silverstars in H4, but the price of $50CAN for each bulb was beyond my budget. Another thing I learned is that a coating on any bulb will most likely if not always block light output from the filament. I don't know if this applies to the Silverstars which have a silver coating on them but this applies to 99% of the bulbs out there. The coating blocks off the all the wavelengths of every color except for the wavelength of the color of the coating hence allowing less light on the road. I think it's best to stick with uncoated bulbs from a quality manufacturer instead, as it puts out the most light, albeit in a boring yellow colour, which is better than white in rain actually. |
