Cool, thanks. It's nice to speak with another Canadian to see what these mods ordered from the states "actually" cost.
If I get mine soon (hopefully) I'll take some pics and post them as well. |

I personally don't like it, as I do hook a finger under the knob, and the increased thickness around the shaft is annoying. |
The question still exists of will that ring work with a Protege? The picture is of a miata. We all know that our Pro's have that fat part on the shaft and it looks like the ring pushes the boot down a touch. Will the ring be able to fit between the boot and the knob on a protege shaft?
Anyone have the answer to that? |

Good Call, if the ring is loose on the shaft portion of the knob, and has room to spin and jiggle I can see that being very annoying...it's a shame that no body had one of these things and can tell us all about them.

gaspo:
if you go for the magnum knob, you won't need the ring, and the ring will not work with the bigger shaft of the magnum. i also wish to rant just a little now: (please do not take offense) you guys seem to be making a big deal out of changing your shift knob and it's compatability with your shift boot that a little ingunuity can quickly take care of. when i first bought my voodoo knob, i drove around with the stock shift boot not touched for about 2 weeks thinking of how i could alter the appearance to look a little cleaner. if you like the way the knob looks, you will not be disappointed with the feel at all. it is very mystical how that works, but it does. now, the base of the stock knob is roughly 1.25 inches in diameter. (if my memory is still good) and the base of the voodoo knob is .75 on the classic size, and .875 on the magnum. there is your comparison. my voodoo knob only threaded down enough such that there was a 1/16 inch gap between the base of the knob and the top of the shift boot. if you can live with the diameter difference, stick a couple washers under the shift boot to raise it up a little. if you want a trim ring to add flare to the base of you classic sized knob, get it. if it rattles because there is a space between it and the shift knob, stick a washer under it like i said above. what i chose to do is to modify the stock boot to give a smoother look. eventually, it will be raplced with a boot that looks like the ones found in civic type-r's. (only because i like the way they look) sorry for the long post. and i'll say it again: if you like the way the voodoo looks, get it. you will not be disappointed. |
Nik,
No offense taken, and I am planning on getting a voodoo knob, no doubts about that. I just like to check all the avenues prior to doing anything to my car (hope you understand). I'm not too concerned with the gap, or the finishing either, a washer or two for $0.50 or whatever washers cost is much more economical, and practical than a "finishing ring" worth $16 (Cdn). I am new to the car customization/modification world and outside of a new set of pedals I haven't done anything to my car. I just like to be sure that whatever I do will look at least as good as it did stock. I know the voodoo knob will look about 1 million times better than stock, however I know a few people with Civics, and Acuras and such that have put on an aftermarket shift knobs, and have the problem of gaps, and unfinished boots etc... Just making sure that my car won't look the way theirs does...crappy! |
with about 15 minutes worth or tinkering, you can make your shift boot look like mine. (in the picture i posted earlier) if you have access to a sewing machine and someone with some sewing experience, you can have an even better looking boot. (i am having my mother sew a cool boot for my car)
yeah, and after spending so much on useless mods, i now seek my wifes judgement on any mods i want to do. (she if much smarter, after all :p ) |
Thanks for all the advice if I haven't said it before, I decided to go with the Magnum Pearl knob and just got the confirmation today that it shipped so I should be getting it by weeks end.
I think I will do what you did and cutomize my boot using the steps you said.....my only question in this thing (after of course reading post after post and deciding on the Voodoo knob) is how do u actually get your boot off to do that mod...... :D |
is there a voodoo knob to fit the 2nd gen pros?
|
I'm not too sure, but if you remove you knob and measure the diameter of your shaft (I know dirty jokes galore) then I could check mine and see if they are the same...same size and they'll fit.

Cool thanks for the advice...when I get some free time and get my knob in I will have to take a look at reversing the boot like you do to give it more of a seamless look. :p
