question on installing speakers

Does anyone know if 7" speakers will fit in the front doors of a 2002 P5? Will any metal have to be cut or do I just need brackets or something? Thanks.

I wonder why no one has replied to this post yet. Anyways, 7" speakers will not fit in the front doors. In the rear they might b/c most 7" speakers have the same mounting diameter as a 6.5". So if you plan on installing them in the front, yes some metal will have to be shaved off and new holes drilled. Don't bother buying the Scoche adapters, I did, and they were usless unless you are installing 5.25" speakers in the 5x7 opening. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I took it in to a local shop today and the guy told me he could fit it by adding some plates and screwing them in so we'll see what happens.

well with a skill saw, and owners willingness to let me hack on the metal, the trim, and never be able to use the windows again, I can generally get speakers never ment to be installed in a particular car or location of fit just fine.....

dave, have you ever used a nibbler for cutting sheet metal? it works great for some stuff, but sucks for 90 degree bends in the metal. but it's the easiet way i've found at cutting metal. takes a small rectangular bite out of the metal. requires almost no force, for thin metal. thick metal requires a bit more, but still not too bad. course i still prefer an air grinder
I too actually like the grinder, great satisfaction in a job done nuclear!
In a pinch a blow torch!
In all honesty, I would really question letting someone go after either the trim or the metal in a 2002.5 new car. See what this installers work looks like before you let me whack at the interior. It will cost much more than the install to make right what this guy does...

Yeah I made sure to find a credible guy to do the job. He's well known in my area and his work has been showcased in Car Audio magazine so he knew what he was doing. I don't think he had to cut any metal. He used custom plates and put the mids and the tweet next to each other.
