I have pics and info on the wiring harness. Go to the site and select Info/Specs from the bottom left. As you scroll through the pics, you will see the wiring harness diagram. I have all wires accounted for except 1.

The site:

AGAIN I WILL ASK?

YES I SEEN THE SITE! BUT BUT BUT IT DOES NOT SHOW POLARITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AGAIN I WILL ASK?

Yes I no the trick for finding polarity but I don't want to remove panels etc. to find out!!!!

Which is PLUS?

Which is NEGATIVE?

P5 harness same as in prior gen 3s

continuing on the wiring harness thread...

anyone know if the P5 harness is the same as on prior gen 3s? if that is the case then I can order one of those for the upgrade.

updated: hmmm... now that I think about it, has anyone found an aftermarket harness for their gen 3 protege?

thanks!

Lightbulb Polarity

If you can see the speaker (thru the grill with a flashlight) get the 2 speaker wires and tap one wire to the (+) side of a 1.5v battery and the other wire to the (-) side. If the speaker pops out then your polarity is correct, if it pops in then the wires are backward. Try to use a 1.5v battery (AA, C, D) if you cannot see too well which way it pops then use a 9v for a short time (do not leave connected just tap, tap, tap-it will pop in or out).

Here is the polarity

Here is the polarity.

I removed the door panels again checked the polarity.

Hey deejayspinz you can update your wiring harness now!

I know the colour code is:

White Front Right (-)
Red Front Right (+)
Black/White Front Left (-)
Black/Brown Front Left (+)
Black(big) Ground

Exclamation Lime/Black wire

Sometimes manufacturers use 2 dimmer/illumination wires. One (+) and one (-) adjustable.

A thought on that mysterious Lime Green/black wire:

Assuming that the MP3 and the P5 share stereo wiring harnesses (a very safe assumption - I'm nearly positive that they do) couldn't this green/black wire be the remote turn-on lead for the factory subwoofer in the MP3?

Any MP3 owners out there who'd be willing to make me a hero?

Well, not really a hero, but I love a good mystery... maybe I've got this one solved!

Well, I never claimed to be an electrical engineer, and I don't own a volt meter.

This was just a guess as to what this "mystery wire" is in the P5 wiring harness.

In order to see if this is correct, wouldn't I need to remove the radio from an MP3 and test the wire with the stereo plugged in?

It was just an idea.

I'm with you on the lime green/black wire theory.

Continuing the colour theory.

I know the colour code is:
Green/orange Rear Right (-)
Green Rear Right (+)
Brown Rear Left (-)
Brown/White Rear Left (+)
White Front Right (-)
Red Front Right (+)
Black/White Front Left (-)
Black/Brown Front Left (+)
Black(big) Ground
Pink/Black Accessory
White/Black ..................12v+ with lights
Lime/Black .....................0v..........no clue.
Blue/Red Battery

Now what is the LIME/BLACK it has no voltage.

We need to see the Mazda/Kenwood hybrid harness to find out what that wire is, or test an MP3 with the stock Kenwood with the voltmeter.

Since there are no external amps in the P5, I'm a little more convinced that I may be right about it being a remote turn-on lead, since it shown no voltage in the P5.

Another theory (although similar) is that, if other Mazda models use this same harness, maybe it's a power antenna lead (could double as the remote lead, so basically the same thing).

Couldn't someone who has the Scosche wiring harness adapter tell us? They'd be able to identify it by the space that the wire occupies in the harness, and what wire gets hooked up to the corresponding space on the Scosche harness from an aftermarket deck.

Hmm.. if I'm not too busy this week, maybe I'll give Scosche a call - just out of curiosity.

I keep a couple of Best kits for proteges around, and there is no pin in the harness to match up to the opposite side, so go figure!

Hey, I have the scosche harness and there is no connection for the dimmer wire. If that helps any.
