pooched an alternator

how in bloody hell do i kill an alternator on a 99 pro when my system only has ONE amp?

any ideas?

Have you had the belts messed with at all. A belt that is too tight can kill the pulley in effect killing the alternator. Just an idea..

and nope, no belts were touched.

It was probably not directly the amps fault, what type of amp and how many watts? It is pretty basic math to caculate how many amps will be drawn. Do you have standard lights or aftermarket bulbs and or extra lights.
Even if built well, and most aren't, alternators are subjected to tremendous heat next to the motor, and are a moving part. Misalignment of belts, too little or too much slack excessive grit or noise, getting frozen, exposed to water, the number of miles, the list of suspects can go on and on.
For about 400.00 you are starting to get into higher ouput alternator range, only problem is if a deal cracks the hood to fix a problem, and sees some mongo alternator, they may get sniffy about it. If there was still warrenty, I would suggest no, but if it is gone, heck think about it.

DAMN AMERICAN MONEY



but i didn't pay for labour, called a friend who called a friend type deal and they fought over who could do it. i had no one then i had 2 guys...bahahha!!! fight over the car ANY day...



its a 400w orion amp
had the system installed for about a year now
car is 3+ years old
and i've got 96,000km on her
