Stupid question, but does anyone find that silver head units clash with the bezel we have? I know it's kinda gold-ish (think champagne). I couldn't really tell from the pic that Tomac posted. Just a bit fussy, I guess. Thanks!

hehe, $800 is expensive. I paid $950 cdn for mine and it is $1300 MSRP. Really expensive is the Pioneer DEX-P9, $2400 cdn MSRP. Yikes!!

Anyone would have to be stupid to spend $2500 on anything Pioneer makes. They make a decent head unit, yes, but if I'm spending that kinda money, it better be for a company that has one interest....radios. They can't be making tv's, home theaters, car stereos. Clarion, Alpine, Eclipse....

As for one that matches the illumination....A Clarion DZ-715 will change Amber/Green. The 9675 did as well and looked really good in my dash. But I plan on adding indiglo gauges, so since looks weren't important I went with an Eclipse 8051.

The only time mine clashes is at night. But during the day it blends nicely with the dash/carbon fiber. I get a comment from everyone that rides in my car I can get a better, hi-res picture if you want pro5girlie. As far as price as some of you are saying.. sure it's expensive when you look at the MSRP. Ebay people.. I paid almost $200 below MSRP for it, brand new and in original box.. I paid $517 for it, not sure what that comes out to be in cdn.

Question

Who makes the pocket used?

As far as Pioneer is concerned, I personally do not use it, but you do understand that most radio manufacturers including Alpine and Eclipse do not make the cd transports and D/A converters. Most of those are made by Sanyo, Panasonic and Phillips. Just food for thought.

Not sure who makes it, The store just installed it for me. I would think its just a generic DIN pocket?

Gotta agree about the Kenwood stuff - good prices and real great sound. I think that Kenwood does a nice job of equalizing the output from all of their components - you seem to get a great balance of highs, mids, and lows - particularly the mids - Kenwoods seem to image midrange really well, in my experience. It only gets better if you add K'woody speakers. Plus, they also seem to have good user-equalizing capabilities - the frequencies of adjustment are very real-world and logical - the adjustments seem to match the output frequencies of average size speakers - not too low and not too high.

OK...I think Kenwood might owe me some advertising money now.......

I think I'll go with the sony CDX-MP450X,not too $$$$

Had a Sony on my previous car and had no problem with it.

I'm not a music freak, the only thing I want is to remove that ugly desk and get a MP3 player.

I think the red will look good at night...

well put. Kenwood is way overrated. They overcharge because their units look "cool". When it comes down to performance/sq, they're not even in the same class as Clarion, Eclipse, Nakamichi HUs.

Maybe Kenwood's prices can be a bit steep for their "high-end" components with too many whistles and bells, but I've found that their mid-level equipment is excellent. I've had several Kenwood components, including decks, amps, CD Changers, and speakers, and have never had complaint about any of them. No, I didn't go for the more expensive model because it looked cool - I stayed with more reasonably priced equipment that had the features I needed.

I always felt like I got my money's worth out of Kenwood equipment, and I never spent that much. I have also found their reliability to be very good - which is more than I can say for some other manufacturers.

We could argue this all damn day - Fact is, we all like what we like, and if it works for you, stick with it. There are as many opinions about equipment as there are about music in general.

What really matters is that we all love our common ground - the Proteges that these sytems are in!

Pre-Amp output is a bit low on those. I would recommend at least 4v.

I agree. 1.8V and 2V are a little low for preouts. Also, those decks only have 2 pair of preouts each. Probably for front speakers and rear speakers, but what about the subs? One of the most important factors in my choice of HU was that it had 3 pair of preouts(front, rear and subs) at a good voltage level. Of course, the HU's with 3 preouts are a little more expensive though.
