Modifying In-dash DVD unit for multi-region

I live in Australia, and in Aus. our DVD's are region 4 where in the U.S. it's region 1. Can in-dash DVD players that only play region 1 dvd's (DVD unit bought from US) be modified to be multi-region. I know normal home DVD units can be modified. I have an opertunity to buy a US DVD monitor, but it can't play Aussie DVD's.

Thanks,
TDK

i didn't think home players could be modified, as i thought it was in the laser pick-up, but if it's mearly software or a chipset swap, then i would tend to think so. Best bet is to try to contact the manufacturer.

or starting buying US DVDs online
