Ground for amp

I mounted my amp under the passenger seat and ran the power and ground wires to it. Where have people been grounded their amps under the seat? I ended up connecting the ground to the rear left seat mount bolt using a ring terminal. I just wanted to double check that this was an ok place.

I'll have pics of the install once I get the speakers installed and finish wiring the amp. I was thinking of taking a lot of pics for the rear speaker install and maybe writing a how-to on removing the rear deck since I haven't been able to find one with pictures.

The seat bolt is a great place to ground your amp. Just make sure you have really good metal-to-metal contact.

I have not had my seats out or anything, but if possible, I would get that ring terminal UNDER the carpet somehow, and scrape the paint from the metal of the floor, so that you have a real nice contact patch.

Also - while ring terminals can be convenient and work fine, they can also cause problems occasionally - especially on thicker gauge wire. I found it very difficult to properly secure a ring terminal to my 4 gauge ground wire (without buying a fancy set-screw type). I just stripped a good amount of the wire, and neatly put the bare wire under the bolt I used for the ground connection. It's secure, and has plenty of contact. My system has zero ground noise issues.

As long as your terminal is nice and secure, you'll be fine. But if you have any doubts, don't think just going "bareback" with the wire is bad - it's not.

Get dem pix up!

If you don't mind removing the console, there are also some good brass nuts under there that make excellent grounding points (after scraping paint off the bolt or the sheet metal as HH staed). That's what I used for my amp under the seat.

Thanks guys I think I will remove the console and put it under the carpet. The ring terminal is soldered on and I gave it a tug afterwards to make sure it wasn't going to come off.

It came about from this thread that turned into a restaurant discussion. See mesoh's post about halfway down the page and below.

beef helps you spell

After someone said that it was the quote of the month, I was forced to act. I have never had anyone tell me I had the quote of the month before

By the way HH - I like the cylon P5. Or is that Knight Rider?

Dale.

Just be careful if you see HiHo's and my signatures at the same time on the screen. I was getting dizzy from all the movement

Soldered connections are not usually a good idea , especially where i come from.... i do car audio installs in my time off and i can tell you in my expereince soldering is a bad idea... why you ask? simple, rust... solder rusts very easily, and if you store your car outside, or near the sea (i live on the coast) then any audio stuff (head unit looms) and other stuff rusts pretty quick unless you go to a real effort to cover it up or coat it...

just my 2c... maybe alot of people think im wrong... but hey free speach...lol
