I went with the best or highest watage of xieon or how ever the hell you spell it. anyways all 4 bulbs only costed like 50 bucks and they look great real hyper white looking with that high performance blue tint. My opinion hyper white look the best but everybody is different.

My protege uses H4 bulbs , the 2nd gen 95 , I have , and unless I use some 80watt bulbs, wich don't last long, I can't see squat like in the rain ,,, ohh my that is a situation inside itself , what use is having traction with good tires if you can't see where you are going ...
I agree the miata's have the blazing headlights , have you seen the new ones, the beam pattern is fantastic , this is what I want , or wish I could have

Bruce, I don't know if there's any help...as the headlights lenses in the 1st and 2nd gens are crappy to begin with. The 1st gen uses a 9004 bulb, and together with the lens' beam pattern, is barely better than an oil lamp as far as useable light IMO. My neice has a 1995 ES, and her car isn't any better, though I don't know what bulbs the 2nd gen uses.

The 3rd gens, especially the MP3 and P-5, have much better lenses, wtih four bulbs as opposed to two in the regular sedans...but, as those use a H4 bulb, they're actually decent.

Still won't beat my Miata, with true H4 lenses, or for that matter the RX-3 with four 10" Cibie Super-Oscars on the front, but hey, that's not a practical way to drive...but fun.

ohh ok , got ya , so if I had the jdm lights in the car , they would tend to shine toward the left , into oncoming traffic , hmm that would not be cool with the state troopers and local police unless I aimed the lights down , and then that would defeat the whole purpose of having the better lighting lol

Back to your problem... The reason why the fog lights look yellow is because what you see is reflected light coming from the bulb and not direct beams (The metal shield in front of the bulb prevents direct beams). Therefore the base of the bulbs provide more light than the top.

If you look carefully at the cheaper "HID look" bulbs, they usually have a blue coating on the bulb. And typically near the base of the bulb, it's not coloured as much, so what you see is the light coming from the base of the bulbs, which will be yellow.

I believe if you get PIAAs, the effect will be much better, since they don't utilize cheap blue coating on their HID look bulbs.

Interesting, as the two MP3s that I have seen in the flesh here had separate filament lights. Makes me wonder if they came that way or the owners changed them afterwards.

That's probably exactly what they did. The headlights from the P5 are far nicer looking than those that come stock in the MP3 - the dual-beam, bullet-turn signal design is a real focal point of the front end, IMO.

The thing is (at least in the US) cars MUST have amber markers somewhere forward of the front wheel - the MP3 uses the regular sedan light buckets, with the amber corners. The P5 has no such corner lenses, and therefore has the (somwhat fugly but not too bad) amber marker lights on the side of the bumper, in front of the wheels. The MP3 doesn't have these bumper markers.

Side markers (like the MP3 - between the front wheels and the front doors) don't qualify for the law. They are just visual enhancements. So those MP3 owners with P5 headlights are in violation of US laws, though I dunno what the deal is in Canada. IMO, the P5 lights withOUT the bumper markers and WITH the side fender lights is the nicest setup, illegal or not. And I know a guy who did this to his P5 by swapping on an MP3 bumper (no bumper marker lights) and installing fender side markers. Looks great. And I don't know too many cops that know or would even care about this one.

So with these fogs, is it just a bulb that you guys are replacing or is it the whole light. Where could I get em?

as is typical with anything associated with the U.S. and is laws-its still out of date and ridiculous. just like our speed limits. most speed limits on roads here in the south have not changed-EVER! so they were set when cars did not handle, could not brake very well...etc...and yet they still refuse to update them. i dont get it.

i really hate this country sometimes and wish it would "Get with" the rest of the damn world and quit being so damn self-rightious(sic?)!!!!!
