Does using a claybar while cleaning work REALLY well?

I'm wondering because I just waxed my dad's IS300 but I feel many tiny bumps like micro rock hits from sand or whatever. Anyways, I have a clay bar from Zaino Bros. and I was wondering if using a claybar and then waxing it again would help get rid of some swirl marks(from the dealer) and a few spots that feel not so smooth.
Thx

I also have a few paint imperfections on my P5 as well.

clay bar is the ultimate in detail superiority!

If you properly use a clay bar you're car will feel like silk 24/7.

thx roddimus. Last question, do you use clay bar while washing the car or after washing the car? Or after waxing or before waxing?

Roddimus Prime May-24th-2004 07:42 AM

I always washt he car first but before drying use MOTHERS CLAY BAR SYSTEM...it's aspray bottle. you spray it on and rub the clay into the area...after doing a small section fold the clay over several times to bury the stuff pulled out.

works very well.

clay bar's are one of those secrets detailers don't want you to know about...they kick butt!! little particles of sand and dirt can bury themselves into your clear coat and clay is the only way to remove it...like Rod said make sure to fold over often so the stuff you pull out isnt scratching your paint

Hey roddimus, i want to use my zaino clay bar but does that mean i have to strip the wax before i use my clay bar or can i just use the clay bar over the wax i have right now? I don't want to strip the wax because I have put on a good 5-10 layers of Zaino on my car and I feel like it would be a waste if i have to strip the wax again.

Roddimus Prime May-24th-2004 03:08 PM

wax is only sealing in whats already there....if you strip the wax and use the clay bar it will feel just like it's been waxed.....waxing only covers the impurities.

strip, wash, claybar, wax, enjoy.

i had a feeling u would say that. :(
If i must, i will. I guess ill strip the hard work on monday since this week ive got finals. but i have to admit, i have never seen a wax so good that i can see the reflection of my tail lights on my bumper so clear before.
Zaino, if u ask me is way better than that Meguiars NXT stuff. I'm hooked. lol

Roddimus, what should I use to remove Zaino??? I just remembered that Dawn might not remove the wax and I am planning to do this as soon as my summer starts which is tomorrow at 1:30pm. I planned to wash, wash, claybar, wash, wax, wax, wax, spray, and then admire.
All this would be done with Zaino but now I'm not sure if I want to go through the hassle of removing Zaino unless you have a suggestion on what I could use to remove all the layers I put on my car.

washed my car 2 times, clay barred it, washed it again with zaino car wash solution, waxed with Z5 with ZFX mixed in it, wiped it off, waxed Z2 on it, wiped it off, and finally sprayed Z6 gloss enhancer. took an hour admiring and touching it. less than 5 hrs later, it rained on me. WHY WHY WHY!!! it was clear, sunny, not humid, beautiful day and i spent 5 hrs washing and waxing that car and less than 4 hrs for it to get it dirty. lol, horrible luck but man does claybarring it make a difference. I was very happy with the results.

claybar won't take out swirl marks.

thank you., i was about to point that out.

removing the 5 layers of zaino?

i dont envy you . . .

since you have swirls? why not use something like 3M swirl remover - and it will do both jobs - take off the zaino and help with the swirls -

then rewash with Dawn to get rid of the oils that all swirl removers have - and now - apply that Zaino ( or any other product) onto a much better prepared surface.

the best results are acheived when the best care in prep work has been taken . ..

no, i didn't have swirls on my car. I have them on my dad's IS300 and that was my plan for his car. I did take off about 10 coats of zaino on my car though just so that I can remove some of the spots like stain spots on my car. I washed my car 2 times with dishwasher soap, clay barred it, used zaino's car wash formula, waxed it with ZFX, waxed it again with Z-2 and then finished with the gloss enhancer. And damn, my car was smooth. about 3-4 hrs later, it rained on my car and i was like wtf??? since the day was clear, sunny and not muggy one bit. but it's still smooth so on weds, i am going to wash my car again and start my layers back up. but damn horrible luck since it had less than 10% chance of rain that day 2. stupid weather predicters.

bad luck with the rain . .. but at least having the zaino on it means its easier to wash now. water runs off like nothing else, and for the rest of the season all you have to do is wash, dry and gloss spray the car to make it look freshly done . ..

a little trick in the future - if you get water spots, take a 50/50 water/white vinegar mix and spray and wipe - you will see the water spots gone . . . no harm to paint, just wash the area again. ive gone over the entire car with 100% white vinegar for some customers before detailing . . perfect fix ..
