Originally posted by pr5owner Around $250 (tax,S/H,etc) :p this $250 you spend would probably end up being worse than stock So i dunno if you want us to post our ideal setup or something (I'm guessing money's no problem), so here's mine: Speakers: Infinity Kappa 572.5 5x7" 2-way fronts ($170 per pair) Infinity Kappa 63.5 6.5" 3-way rears ($220 per pair) Subs: 2 x JL Audio 13" W7 subs (no idea about price but pretty expensive) These will require quite a bit of work on the body so that the car doesn't BREAK!! Amps: JL Audio 300/4 for front/rear speakers ($450 or so) Rockford Fosgate Power 1500dbd for subs ($1000 or so) So yea I'm a big Infinity and JL Audio fan. And maybe this setup'll cost somewhere around $3000+ (well over the $250 from the first setup) but at least it'll be an upgrade over the stock stereo! I'm sure you guys have noticed that I haven't changed the headunit...well I kinda like seeing the whole stock thing and if I can wire the amps from the HU then I'll leave it as is. Just make sure it's the in-dash changer and it's all good. Just to keep the stock look for everyone in the car I'd try to stuff the amps underneath the driver's and passenger's seats (hopefully heat not being TOO much of an issue, but hey, it's not like I'm gonna even ATTEMPT this setup so who cares right??!!). Subs in a nice enclosure in the back. Well that's my setup that would be awesome if I wouldn't have to pay for, but alas, this is life and nothing's free when you're not living at home with mommy and daddy. nsx |

I have been in the stereo industry for 15 years and you would be suprised how many of these systems are out there. 700 WATTS of distorted power for $100.00 at the swap meet. 700 WATTS refers to the designation of (WLS) not (SPL) 700 WATTS (WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES)!!!!!!!:D

Realisticlly here is what I'm getting
I'd like to know what people think of this system I'm about to purchase. Pro's, Con's, whatever I just would like some advice. Do you think this will work in my Protege5.
Head unit - Its an older Alpine from my last car only 2 preouts (the reason I say only 2 preouts, it is to justify the reason I'm not going to get a 4-channel amp to run the 2 front and rear channels. I'm going to run the front preout to the MRV-T320 and the rear/sub preout to the MRD-M300) Upfront - Infinity REF505CS 5 1/4" Component System Rear -Sony XS-V1632 6 1/2" 3-Way Speakers (Only thing I could find that would have a chance at fitting) If someone knows of another speaker that doesn't require more than 1 11/16" mounting depth let me know! Sub - (1) JL Audio 12W3-D2 in a ported box Sub amp - Alpine MRD-M300 V12 AccuClass-D Mono Power Amp Amp for the rest - Alpine MRV-T320 2/1 Channel Power Amplifier BTW: This whole thing is gonna cost around $850 (installed by me), good price or no?? |
you should get a little more than 2inches for the rear speakers. my fusion 6.5's come in at a little over 2" and they fit fine. mazda says they rear mounting depth is 2", but you can go a bit over that. i'd suggest grabbing a pair of infinity ref 6.5's.
what's the rms on that 12w3? somwhere around 350 or so? looks like you're wanting the most out of your jl! system looks pretty good tho. :) price looks about right as well. |
dude, thump! is really not that bad. it's ma audio's entry level line, and even tho it has a funky name and swap meet look, it has decent sound...
but i wouldn't run it. y'know, i'm just saying... um, nevermind. :D |
hehe, i wasn't saying thump! was good, just that they are not that bad. decent stuff for ppl on a tight tight tight budget.
but i wouldn't run it. y'know, i'm just saying... :p |

I think I'd like to install the original factory HU from my 79 camaro in my Pro:
AM/FM with CB - yes, that's right - car came with a CB radio - no tape, no 8-track - no nothing. Just AM, FM, and truckers to keep you entertained. And it was made by AC Delco :bt: Yeah - that thing lasted about a week in that car....... ~HH |

I haven't looked at the specs yet, but it looks like the front speakers in a P5 are 5x7. Is this true? Is it easy to install 6.5" speakers in the front (i.e., any kits that can make it fit easily)? I already have a brand new pair of RF separates that I was hoping to install there. I suppose I can put them in the rear, and get some 5x7s for the front. Does anybody have suggestions about the tweeters that are up by the side mirrors? Should they be upgraded? Are there any 5x7" separates that you would recommend?
This is what I currently have, that I bought to put in my old car. Now that I have a new P5, I'm not planning on using thes components in my old car.
