I have the Mazda pocket - I'm sure you've seen mine or what that looks like.

No doubt, the best looking pop-in unit, and PERFECT fit - but also probably the most expensive - by a LOT.

Maybe you'll want to see if you can find these:

Made by SoundKase, and distributed by Scosche. I don't know if they are out there yet - I couldn't even find ANY info online about it - anywhere. But the pic was in an ad for it in this month's CA&E magazine, so it IS coming soon.

I heard you can also use the pocket from an MPV - it's not covered, but it's a better fit and finish than the Metra crap, and I think it's under $20. Good option.

Dealer - for the Mazda MPV minivan.

Check the fit if you can - but I think it does work.

More? The OEM pocket for the Protege (with the latched cover) is $70-$100 at the dealer. I think the MPV one is under $20.

Question for you guys who used the Mazda MP3 Pocket: did you need to purchase any other mounting items? I have a Pro5 that I'll be upgrading the HU on for Xmas, and the Mazda kit is the nicest and cleanest looking. I'm just wondering what other items will be needed to physical mount a single DIN head unit.

Thanks in advance......

You don't need any other materials to mount a HU and the MP3 pocket.

The pocket is a perfect fit, snap-in unit. No mods are necessary.

And all you'll need to do is put the mounting sleeve for your new HU into the top single DIN opening (above the MP3 pocket), bend back a few tabs to hold it in place, and slip your deck into it. I did "shim" up the rear of my deck (with a couple of sheets of very thin packing foam - using the MP3 pocket for support), but ti might not be necessary. Backstrapping the deck is the best, but the MP3 pocket fits so well, it will give a good deal of support to whatever deck you put over it.

HEY! I have that exact HU but I can't find a wiring harness adapter. Mine's an '03, is it completely different ya think?
The guys at Best Buy said wait a couple months, the guy at Mazda said it would be a YEAR probably before one was available.
