Black Anti-Rust Enamel

Well, i have gotten sick of what my trunk looked like and sounded like (with rattling), so i stripped out my back plastic panels and decided to put a base coat of some black rust enamel (just incase) to the bottom of my trunk... then i got a little paint happy and did the whole trunk. (i have a white 94 lx pro by the way.) now i still have to mask off a little to get the detailed areas, but it i noticed in some areas the paint won't stick on the first coat and will actually whick away, does anybody know what causes this? i washed everything down with some windex and it still doesn't want to stick, any suggestions.

ps. future trunk plans are to dynamat the whole bottom and put some carpet down and a custom platform to get rid of that ugly trunk liner.

Did you find any rust? I think that for the paint to not stick on bare metal, there must be some grease or something still on there. Windex may not be strong enough, maybe a wire-brush or some acetone will clean it off.

ok, thanks guys, didn't think too hard, it's painted white metal, as the inside of your trunk is, i found out that after multiple coats, it dries over them, so right now i have a solid black trunk.. dynamat will cover the bottom... maybe the sides, and the bottom platform, i haven't figured anything out yet... so here's my other question:

what can you use to build a sturdy platform for my trunk? i was thinking about like a 1/2 inch plywood, custom fit and carpeted, but i'm not too sure about weight of the wood and everything, are there any alternatives... and yes i've heard of the trunk liners they sell that are diamond plate 1/16ths metal, are there any other solutions?

I've heard of people using MDF whenever they do custom work on the trunk. Why, I don't know, but I guess it's probably lighter than plywood. I am sure that if you do a search on 'MDF' on this forum, you'll probably find some useful info. The audio guys probably know better.....

I will most likely be doing that myself in the near future, so keep us posted on how it goes!

EDIT: Here's an interesting link that I found....

ok, well i have some blurry pics to put up and give you guys an idea about what i did to my trunk so far, as far as that custom civic box, not a bad idea, cept too involved of a project and wouldn't be worth my time, i'm just talking a platform, covered in carpet to make the storage area of the trunk more sturdy and take more abuse... i dropped a 20 pound weight in the back and the damn thing near caved in on me. i will have some new pics up later today or tomorrow!

actually, MDF a.k.a. ( MEDIUM DENSITY FIBERBOARD ) is heavier than plywood, depending on what kind of plywood you get... MDF is nice because it's real strong and smooth... only problem with getting MDF as opposed to plywood is that it's a little heavier and it usually costs more than most plywood.

ok, well, pinned on time, i could only get my friend's camera together to take pics at night, and minus flash.. we went outside of the local sam's club parking lot and i snapped a bunch of photos... here are 2 pics of my trunk with the panels stripped out and everything painted black.. now granted, i couldn't get the trim that perfect, i didn't get all the edges of the trunklid, so i'm going to take the lid off all together when the weather warms up and fully paint it and dynamat it

what do you think? tacky? lol

it's a **** job for now, and the photos i touched up as well as i could, what do you guys think?
