I gotta agree, my wife thinks all my toys are a waste of money. I could survive without a kick-ass computer and some bump in my car...but I couldn't LIVE!

This is the same way my wife feels as she just doesn't understand why I have to spend the $$. Although, she used my car the other day and when I got in it I had to turn the stereo down as she must have been enjoying the fruits of the labor.

Still waiting on the EDesign subs and will probably be waiting for a while from the sound of things. I have been enjoying listening to the rest of the stereo, but one thing else it is lacking is the fact the front sound stage is so low. True kickpanels even out the distance more so from left to right, but the sound is coming from below and no rear fill doesn't help things either. I know Boston Acoustics sells "Ambient" tweeters which I have seen mounted in the pillars of the car to raise the soundstage. Also, Audio Control has a signal processor that raises the soundstage or supposed to. I may not mess with it because it sounds really good, just could sound even better if I could get the soundstage raised a bit. Nothing like balcony seats in a concert! No they are not that bad off! :D
I was took back when emailing EDesigns regarding the ETA of the subs (not that I am in a hurry) and provided them the order number and they responded by asking what I had ordered. WTF? Shouldn't they know by the order number? Good things come to those who wait. Gotta think positive;)

On the Edesigns email issues. I think they are so loaded down right now with shipping out all the woofers and they supposedly had to hire more people to test the woofers and package them and I am sure there are new people in sales too. Especially since they just added the amplifiers to their line. I am still waiting too, but I am sure it will be worth the wait.

MisterT June-14th-2003 10:30 AM

And you have been waiting for over a month! Wowzers! I think that is what you mentioned in an earlier post. But for the money, my gosh, you can't beat them. Nothing comes close. I could get a pair of JL 12W0's and not wait at all, but they don't handle the same amount of power, have the same warranty, nor do they sound as good from what I heard. Like I said before, I am enjoying the system (which is an excellent way to test how good of a system you have, going without bass for some time)! I would look at getting ambient tweeters in the pillars, but then I would need another amp. I just don't have the room nor the money to do so now. Otherwise, it would be the icing on the cake! I guess I have to make do.

yo guys i'm new here and i just got a new mp5 and i love it soooo much;) i'm still thinking of what i can do to the engine. but i don't know what kind of sound system i can get i do like a lot of base but i don't know anything about sound systems for cars, so if you guys can help me on what i can get, like i have ask some friends of my and they have tell me 2 go for something like 2 "12 Subwoofers and like 500 watts Amplifier and a new Decks i like it to play mp3s but thay have not told me what make to go for and where to go to get it. i have like $1500 to spend. in us it's $1125 to spend.

P.S i just want a Amplifier, Subwoofers, and Decks i'm going 2 do my Speakers later.

This might be a few posts overdue, but I was wondering why no one's every mentioned the Audiobahn AWT34X sub. It's 34" and goes down to 10 Hz...don't know how many amps will reproduce signals that low but whatever...besides, who needs rear half of the car?! hahaha
http://www.audiobahninc.com/products...mpression.html

Also, I've got a question about subs. If you want a single sub, is it best to get a SVC or DVC or does it matter at all? With DVC you'd be working the amp at 2 ohms, assuming 4-ohms voice coils wired in parallel. Is it bad on the amp to run more power through it at a lower impedance? Cuz if it's not, it sounds like a no-brainer...just go with the a single DVC sub, wire the voice coils in parallel and enjoy the extra power you get from the amp at a lower impedance.

Just curious cuz I'm in the same situation (deciding an a single sub and finding an appropriate amp and enclosure for it),

It is not a problem to drive an amp at 2 ohms if it is designed to run at 2 ohms. There are some amps that can run as low as 1/2 ohm. Running at the lower ohm will draw more current from your electrical system, but not harmful to the amp itself.

MisterT June-15th-2003 07:46 PM

Also, in high current mode you may need a boost in your electrical system. I use 4 gauge wire and a 1.5 farad stiffening cap, and before the surround separation problem came from my previous SoundStream subs, the lights were still dimming just enough to notice. I plan on getting a bigger battery. I don't think it's to the point where I would need an alternator <knock on wood>. I don't know off hand what size battery is in the car, but once I get my EDesign subs, I plan on taking the car to get tested on just how much current is taxing the battery and electrical system, so that I will know for sure if a bigger battery is all that is needed, and hopefully, that will be all she wrote!

Also, not ALL dvc subs are dual 4 ohms. There are dual 2 ohm, dual 3 ohm, dual 6 ohm, etc. It's all about wiring flexibility.

If your amp can handle a 2 ohm load, you're always better off doing that - should give you double the juice. Nearly all class A/B (multi-channel) amps are not designed to handle a 2 ohm load in MONO. They can take 2 ohms PER channel, which equates to 4 ohms in mono. Nearly all class D (or class T, also, I suppose) amps which are mono subwoofer amps, can handle 2 ohms and less - some even down to 1/4 ohm!
