The Best Amp?

I'm thinking:
Zapco,
PPI,
Memphis,
McIntosh,
-Not nessesarily in that order-
What do you think?
I'm not really looking for a new amp, just thinking about who's the very best.

Yeah, you're right, I AM the man! j/k No, I just swapped my Pyramid for an Alpine, and thought "if this amp makes THIS much difference what would a really top end one do?". Just dreamin, I guess.
Ya think a PPI would sound even better?, or should I save my $ for something else.

PPI has been struggaling to regain market that they lost along time ago. My friends dad was the PPI, Orion, ADS rep then DEI bought those companies and fired the reps. PPI is alright but nothing when compared to its former glory. Macintosh is garbage. There the RX-7 of the bunch you listed. They perform amazing and produce perfect sound but they break constantly and dealing with Macintosh to fix anything is a nightmare. I have a customer that sent his back 3 times to have a solder connection fixed and they still havent. We had to refund his money and get him a new amp.

Zapco from reputation seems to be a Macintosh quality but with good service and reliabilty.

By the way I am trying to work something out with my friends dad so I can sell off his old stock of Orion, PPI and ADS to the people on the boards with warrenty and at a nice discount!

Funny I don't remeber saying anything about Sony in my comment you quoted!

By who the Japanesse. By your logic Sony Made my blender, Copmuter and Fusitsu Ten rules the world.

That is the single most assinign thing I have ever heard. Sony doesn't produce Mazda proteges.
Do you honestly thing the sony car audio manufacturing runs mazda manufacturing. WTF are you smoking!
I don't hate on anything I know exactly what sony car audio is. It is a decent entry level product that has done an amazing job convincing complete retards that it is high end and that it is capable of far more then it it or that it is even a well made product. I know you gonna quote me some bullshit about there realiability, that you had 1 amp last a few years, not saying much since I have 3 5 year old alpines still going strong. But consider this first. Tweeter had to dump Sony due to overwelming warrent issues. NOt to mention the amps connections, yes I installed them, are set up like monkey ****.

Now the original SOny ES and even the first generation X-plode was decent stuff, for the price, All in all a pretty good product allow the ugliest damn thing to hit the audio world before Chad Croger of Nickle Back. Howeve this new generation of amps splashed with 760 watts and that bullshit is what has come to **** me off about sony. Sony was a solid audio manufactor witha few productions problems here and there, Then they used there reputation to convice people that their new products were better then they are, I still laugh my *** off when I see an a kid tell me he has a 760 watt amp fallowed by its a Sony, Come here buddy let me show you what this 500 watt JL can do!
UNfortunitly sony car audio products are more about show and marketing then holding true to any sense of honesty with ratings and reliable products. thus the best audio for the deaf since anyone with ears knows its complete BULLSHIT.

But I guess this is all for nothing since I'm a hater becuase I sitting in a chair made by sony car audio, had parts of it made in Japan you know so it must be Sony.

If you think I am alone on the board hating Sony then you should have payed more atention to the other topic, YOU STRARTED!, in which there are 2 pages of people saying sony sucks the fat one and if memory serves I din't say one thing about Sony even in that just a stick poke.

Seriously man just becuase your trying to unload an completely useless POS product line on the boards don't expect em to throw away my personal experience with that product line knowing it is complete garbage.

I have a proposal for you. Send me a sony amp that can do 75x4 watts rms @ 4 ohms, 12 volts and I will honestly compare it to my JL Audio 300/4. I will hook it up to the same stuff in my car that the JL is in now and I will give you a completely unbaise review.

Hey there 1st! I still do like the XBR WEGA tvs in my house! My daughter is begining to eye the plasma screens at the audio stores and I can see on coming.

In car audio, I used to really like the ES hardware, but Sony seems to backed off towards lowered standards which really is too bad for all of us. The specs of the newest hardware can be described at best as middle of the road, without any apparent area where they are trying to be the "best of breed".

I know that you know I have run quite a few McIntosh amps in my time, three of them in one of the cars right now, and I have to say they have worked fine for me, and the only time I had an issue I sent it straight to Mc, and they did the work on a fast turn around.

I like New Hampshire- for what that is worth!

I am not sure where evostyle5 is coming from on this either. Besides the fact that Sony is Japanese and Mazda the same, the "same" aspects ends there. Sony does very little (if any) manufacture in Japan of car audio, most come from Tiawan, Korea, Singapore and China, and the rest of the western rim. Mazda has a large share owned by ford anymore, which is probably not a bad thing, and just reflects globialization.

The question would be are both in the same "family", a tightly bound vertical integration of companies, and the answer would be NO- they are not.

Consumer reports shows ( I just looked again) that sony TV is neithr the best or the worst on repair incidence anymore, just middle of the pack. To me that is a fall for them from thier once loftly position though. Still, that darned 36 inch in the living room is nice....

So- I still go back to my esoteric favorites- Audison, McIntosh, Brax, and unsung heros- JBL and JL Audio!

Stay well!
I don't get as much time to surf these days, my daughter is pretty active in school this year. Right now we are working on getting her ready for her first Space Camp this Spring!

My knowledge of Sony TVs is not from a consumer reports or anyhting of that nature. It is from the repair men!

Tyoicaly in my full time job we come across technicians of various electrical devices and I ususaly make note to ask them what they fix the most, as it tends to reveal the weakest product. Typical from the TV, monitor, Plasma, home AV repair guys I hear the suprisingly Sony TVs make up a large part of there day. No one ever said they were the worst but 3 differernt tech, from different companies have mentioned that is seemed to be getting worse for Sony every year. Aparently its the smaller and lesser Models with the most problems. I never heard a complaint against a Wega!

Thanks of the Bakc up, I am still trying to figure Out what specificly I did? He must not have liked my sig.

Good Luck with the Kids

That post was absolutely the funniest thing I've ever seen on a discussion board. His logic was imbeccable. I thought he was just being funny until I realized he was the guy trying to unload all the Sony stuff before. How safe is to say all that stuff is hot?

BTW but I wouldn't buy anything but a Sony for a TV. The picture is just so much better. We've never had any problems with ours.
My Sony receiver has lasted 15 years, no problems at all and my CD player took 14 years of daily usage to konk out (and that was just a messed up tray motor). Maybe all their new **** sucks. I dunno. It's not high end stereo stuff.... but I can't afford to build my $5000 dream system just yet.
Car stuff is an entirely different matter though altogether. But since "they" (because all Japanese people belong to one single corporation, constantly striving to bring fat Americans cool gadgets) made my Protege I'll cut 'em a little slack.

In my experience, Panasonic is pretty reliable (I know they don't make car amps). They probably don't have the highest picture/sound quality, but most of their stuff is pretty solid in quality

Yeah, I agree with elvis. Maybe newer Sony HOME stuff is bad, but the older stuff is very nice. We've had 2 27'' Trinitrons for 10 and 8 years and they still have a better picture than most new 27'''s, and they haven't had one problem.
