Alarm System: DIY or Pay someone?

Is it difficult to wire an alarm system? I am a novice. Or would I be much better off paying for professional installation, and approximately how much would that cost? I want an alarm and a remote starter.

novice, meaning...
i mean, im a frickin maintenance dood, wiring stuff all day, but i would never wire my own alarm. its only 7 wires, but u have to know exactly which wire to splice into for all the functions to work, and thats just the alarm...not even the remote starter, i know **** about them, but as far as i figure it, i'd pay to have one put in. i payed 325, for a excaliber atv-1000 alarm, with motion sensors inside and out, and proximity sensors, around and underneath my mp3. just my 7 cents(usd)

if you've never done it before, pay a pro to install it.
